Transmission seal and gasket sealant

Tried a couple of searches and got close but no direct answers to my questions. (1973 911T targa, euro)

1) Need to replace the shift rod seal at the front of the 915 tranmission. Any tips on the best method for removal and replacement?

2) In the event you suggest taking the nose cone off to replace this seal, what is the best gasket sealant for installing a new paper gasket on the transmission nosecone?

Standing by with new seal and gasket!

I pried mine out with a small flat blade screwdriver from underneath the car.

From the interior I removed the rubber boot, put some Curil-T on the outside of the seal, with a piece of PVC from Home Depot I tapped the new seal in with a hammer
