Fuel line, can copper line be used?

Good morning
I am replacing the fuel line going thru the car, inside the hump between the seats, Not sure what it is called these days.
I was wondering if copper line would be good to use for this?
My old line was filled with rust and stuff, last owner let it set for 12 years with almost a full tank of gas...

Thanks
Bruce

Bruce,

I think it is called the 'tunnel' ...

Generally, copper is not used in autos because it is too fragile! I t is subject to fatigue cracking, and that is not so good for fuel lines, as a safety consideration!

Replacement steel lines are available at most automotive supply stores!

There is a post regrading failures of the steel lines on the 914 BBS.
I would recommend the SS lines.
Of course this is a retro fit with no guarentee...

IMHO

You can also pick up a roll of aluminum fuel line tubing from Jeg's or Summit for about $20 or so--it's easy to form, light, and it won't rust. I wouldn't reccomend it for brake lines, though. Use steel for high pressure fluids.

I used Stainless steel braided #8 line. That is what my mechanic recommended.
