At this point it's garage art.

I think Ill pass unless they are paying up for the fresh 3.6. The car is for sale not on sale. It could set there another 10 years. I don't owe anything on it and don't need the money.

Buy a 911 shell that you are happy with.
Remove the engine from this car.
Install engine in the new shell you bought.
Sell this yellow car as a shell.

Problem concluded.

I get a kick out of these philosophical threads. You guys have missed your calling. I worked for a company for 40 years and it was considered bad form to drive a fancier car than the CEO. He drove the wheels off a Buick LeSabre. I stuck out like a sore thumb driving my 914 to work now and then. You better believe I parked in the outer reaches.

I had the same thing happen with a Mercedes c43 AMG. I was given a ton of grief.

When I had my car on the celette at Perfect Lines Restoration, the owner told me lots of guys were having him do coupe conversions from cabs. He showed me a few and they looked outstanding. Either that or how about making it a Targa? Both would bring new excitement into the car.

If you really want to go big, do a full backdate. (Targa or Coupe) I promise you wont regret it! With the 3.6 you already have the preferred engine upgrade and you will increase its value significantly.

The car was originally a Targa. I started this project when my daughter was 13 to try and figure out a way to bond with her. she grew up and moved and I lost interest in it. She made many of the decisions on the car and has a key and half ownership. fast forward 20+ plus year. I still love it as art just sitting there. but I realized its time. So I plan to do a story on on it here as in round two.

new carpet
work on fit and finish
new BB race muffler on the existing headers.
I think a hard top to make it look like this picture
Add at least one more oil cooler
take motor out set valves a few new parts
new belt in distributor
sound deadening maybe in engine compartment or paint
bigger brakes
maybe ac
roll bar
replace busings
turbo tie rods
suspension stuff

Gonna try and not go to crazy. lol. Not in a real big hurry, by next fall would be great.

When it sits and sits and sits... there must be a major mechanical problem?

It has about 1000 miles on the rebuilt motor. It has a bit of an idle problem. But drivable. Just really lost interest. Between my store family, rock band and racing cars I’m pretty busy. I did drive the car a lot when I first got it. It is one of those I’ll get around to it things.
