My new 1987 Carrera

Pelicans,

Last weekend I finally bought my first 911. Many thanks to all the folks who answered my dumb question (bad news, lots more dumb questions on the way), looked at cars and recommended PPI shops: Jschaur, Paul K, Soteric, Lynn Houdyshell, and mostly my uncle Dave (known to pelicans everywhere as "wavey"). Being able to ask you guys questions really helped me decide I was ready to do this.

It has 143,xxx miles. Pretty much bone stock. Great shape except for lots of little rock chips on the front (aka "patina"). It runs fabulously. Paid a bit more than I probably should have.

I bought it in Seattle last weekend and drove it home to Boise. Had a blast. I intend to use the car for weekend fun driving, occasional autocross and maybe eventually some DE events (will have to go on the road, no local road course).

As far as projects go, hopefully nothing major in the short run. (I'm a little tapped out at the moment). I do need to replace the driver side seat cushion foams, its saggy enough to be noticed. The upholstery is otherwise fine. Does anyone sell replacement foams? Also will be changing brake pads and hoses over the summer (not critical yet, but close).

In the long haul, I'll probably do some bolt-on power modifications; intake, exhaust, chip, maybe even a cam. Probably also change out stock suspension bushings for upgraded parts. Will probably do most or all the work myself. I will hit you all up for advice when the time comes.

Thanks again,

Nathan

Welcome to the club! Great looking car you have.

It probably isn't the foam but rather the webbing that has given out. I have no idea if this is a DIY project but any competent upholstery shop should make short work of the job.

Well alright! 1987 is the BEST year!
If you are a DIYer, you'll save a ton of money from parts from our host and advice from folks on the board.

Later in the trip...

Good point about the seats. I will post a question on the board about that specifically.

That's a sharp looking car, indeed! Not one of the ones I ran across during my Seattle-area hunt for a 911 though. Where'd you pick it up at? I probably would have snatched that up in a heartbeat, myself!

Email them to me at p_kennington@hotmail.com and I'll post them for you- it's actually pretty simple once you get them the correct size!

Cheers,

Paul.

Very sweet! Do you want to trade it for a black miata with a tan top??

Nevermind, on second thought I'll hold out for someone that's willing to trade a silver 911 coupe with a tail and G50.
