center cap removal and lug nut question

On my 79 911 SC how do you remove the center cap of these Fuchs wheels. Do you have to remove the wheel and go behind or do you just pop it off? Also my lug nuts so I'm told are a lightweight alloy. The problem is that some of them are black and some are kinda goldish anodized color. A mechanic said maybe at some point they were anodized. Anybody got any thoughts.
I think I'm going to just paint over the cap for now, it is fading and losing a little paint.
Thanks guys I've really enjoyed getting hooked up with this forum and site.

The easiest way to remove the centre caps is to take the wheel off and hit the inside of the centre cap with something similar to a wooden broom handle.
It will not take much effort to remove them.

There are plenty of threads about refinishing Fuchs on this forum. I used Rustoleum Satin Black and taped off the wheels using electrical tape, which was easier to bend to the contour of the wheel than standard masking tape.

Yes, your lug nuts are a light alloy, as are all Fuchs lug nuts. It looks as though they were all painted black at one time, but now some of the paint has eroded, worn off in some way and a the bare alloy is showing, perhaps with a yellowing clear coat or something.
Be careful, you can damage the lug nuts with standard steel sockets, and especially with power tools. NEVER use an impact wrench on these wheels.
You can buy a "soft socket" from our host to use when needed, most of us have one I would say.
Good luck with your new ride1 Show us more as you get into your 'fixing up' projects...

Thanks guys for the replies. Where is the search previous posts function? I've been looking but I didn't see it.

Upper right corner, says: "Search"
Take the caps off, use paint remover first, then spray-paint.
I used Satin Rust Paint, came out great.

Be careful ,incase your caps have the locking rings---you wont be able to get them off without undoing the grubscrews. See pic borrowed from e-bay. Also recall someone mentioned the blackening of faded lugnuts [they are anodised]using felt tip pen for a temporary fix.
