Homemade Sun Visor Holder for cars with Targa Top
I have a bit of an issue with my sun visor on my 84 Targa. Being a bit on the tall side the sun visor is somewhat in my line of vision even when I push the sun visor as high as it will go. I wanted some way to pull it up to its highest point, even higher than the factory detent would allow.
I looked online for some kind on bungee hook but did not find anything that would do what I wanted. I wanted something that was easy to put in and take out, did not make any additional noise and was secure once installed. No metal parts that could scratch or dent was also desired. And nothing that if it did come off would hurt anyone. So I broke out the CAD software and designed a hook that would fit into the Targa top latch holes and then hook onto the top of the sun visor to hold it in place. Once I had the CAD done I put the file on my 3D printer and made the part. I used TPU material which is a hard rubber that gives it flexibility but is still strong enough for the application. It too a few iterations to get the measurements and fit right. Takes about an hour to print one. Took it out for a test drive and the sun visor stays out of the way as desired. Now its time to make another hook that will keep the visor out of the way with the top on. It would not be as far up as with the top off, but it should help keep it out of the way. As high as it will stay without hook ![]() Held higher with hook ![]() Hook design ![]() Hook in place in the top locking hole ![]() Last edited by eflight; 10-18-2022 at 12:36 PM.. |

I just removed my visors. I hated how they were in the way if I kept them down, and sticking out /in the way folded back. So much cleaner without them. Just wear sunglasses.

When in the up position the visors block the lovely overhead view. I actually keep them in the down position all the time. I may consider moving them altogether.

Add me to the no visor crowd. Sunglasses, ball cap and a clean windshield.

Great idea and I dig the ingenuity. But I am also in the remove completely camp. A pair of sunglasses, a good Seattle Mariners cap and some sunscreen works for my 5 foot 8 inch frame.
