Hargett Precision Shifter!!!!
Originally posted on the turbo forum but wanted to spread the word here too.
I just wanted to make a quick post and let you guys know I got my Hargett Precision shifter installed in my 930 this weekend. I am unable to drive the car as I am still in the middle of my EFI conversion. I will tell you thought that the quality of the product is incredible! The fit and finish is flawless! I must give credit where credit is due and thank Mark Hargett of Hargett Precision for making a great product! The position of the shifter is far superior to factory, placing the shifter very near the steering wheel. I cant wait to get this out on the road because I know it is going to perform as good as it looks. Thanks Mark! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181581884.jpg |
I want one:D

I've been waiting on the 915 shifter, but the release date keeps moving back.
|
Aloha!
I purchased the 915 shifter last week (6/7/07) and I am SUPER HAPPY! Had a few Q&As, and Mark was extreamly helpful and attentive! I installed it in my '78 Targa. Perfect! Can't say enough about the product and company. Highly recommended! If you want to know more about my particular config and what was need, please feel free to contact me. Thanks! Tom Cesar |
Post some pics.

What about the parking/hand brake
|
I got the email update for the 915 shifter last week. I want one but can't fit it into the budget.
Did you get the shifter rod and coupler with it? Will a stock shifter rod work? Did you have to modify the tunnel for the shifter rod to clear? Any pics of it installed? |
I'll post some picks tonight!
Although I preliminarily installed it last week; I re-installed it "perfectly" over the weekend. Very very cool! Interestingly, by pulling my seats I was able to get the old shift-shaft out of the car. Puzzle work. The instructions say to leave it in the tunnel and secure it... Although not necessary, I had planned to yank everything out of the car to install the shifter, install new brass bushings for my foot peddles, among some other things... I have to tell you, getting to, and installing the peddle bushings was a major PITA! Installing the shifter was soup! I recommend you purchase the coupler kit; the shifter does not use your existing shift system in anyway (except for the rubber trans shaft boot). The rear coupler attaches directly to the trans-shaft. As for the EBrake; I tightened it up a bit (few clicks to engage). I could have left the heater controls, but I removed them because I'm in Hawaii... The shift tower fits "over" the EBreak and heater controls. Little tight to get to, but they do remain in place... Couple of thoughts: 1.) May not reinstall the front center console 2.) May not reinstall the center tunnel carpet - paint instead (flat black) 3.) May install a good extinguisher where the front console was located 4.) Need to fab a plate for the rear w/sound dampening 5.) Need to fab a plate to cover the old shift opening 6.) Done! It simply takes any short shift kit experience to the next level. This is what we were all looking for. Hope this helps! Tom |
I will post pics of the shifter installed and the cover over the coupler once modified tonight or tomorrow.
Good to hear all the positive feedback on Mark. He does some stunning fab work! |
This thread needs something.....PICTURES!!!! Im dying to see one installed.

Hey! another Hawaiian on the board!
|
Yeah - A.L.O.H.A.! I'm a newbie...lots to learn...
I'll try to get some pics up too... Great site! |
I just installed one for my G50 conversion, I relocated the parking brake and heater controls where the stock shifter use to be, the quality is excellent and it shifts great.

So tell us how you got the old shift shaft out of the car without doing something radical (like removing it) to the tranny? Can it be slid far enough forward so it comes out the handbrake hole at an angle? Walt |
jwerion has one installed in his 78' race car. You can see it in this thread.

Removing the existing OEM shift shaft...
With the seats removed and basically everything removed from the column (eBrake/heater controls, front console etc...) I had access. I worked the shaft out thru the hole of the eBrake (working it in the direction of the rear seats). I had to put a little pressure on it (felt it flex against the opening, but not much) and rotated it a few different ways. Note: I DID NOT FORCE IT!!! I was as surprised as anyone... I was preparing to leave it and strap it down. I hope this helps! Tom ;) |
am I sensing group buy?!?!?!
