Best color for 72 Targa??

We need to bare metal repaint a 1972 Targa- now non original dark blue metallic - Original code 422 - nobody knows what color this is.

Car has black seats, charcoal carpet. What is the nicest color for outside?

thanks

Harold,

Can you post a picture of the paint tag?

You can always look in out of the way places (under carpet, rocker panels, fuel door hinge) to get an idea of what the color used to be.

Jelly bean colors look great on longhoods.

If my car didn't have a perfect coat of silver on it, I think it would end up either Gulf Orange or Viper Green.

sballard 06-21-2007 02:45 PM

Tangerine!

Bobboloo 06-21-2007 05:54 PM

422 would have been some type of brown.

0xx = Reds
1xx = Yellows
2xx = Greens
3xx = Blues
4xx = Browns
5xx = Beiges
6xx = Grays
7xx = Blacks
9xx = Silver/Whites

My favorites for Longhood Targas are Irish Green and Burgundy.

A friend of mine just repainted his '72 Targa Emerald Green - Saw it yesterday, beautiful. Here's the factory colors for Coupes and Targas:

Agreed - My 73.5 was special ordered with this color and some PO painted it RED......

IMHO, in this order of preference, tangerine, beige grey, signal orange or irish green. Looking at those color pictures really started me thinking about a 70's coupe.....

Don't you just love that when your PO had no taste or class and ruined a perfectly good automobile?

Yep, I never really saw the color in real life until Gumba had an ad to sell this car. Someday, I'll get back the way she belongs........Beige Gray is a very rare, unique color....

I wish I would have found that car before it sold

I'd go for original color though if you're going that far.

Irish green w/ 7's.....i don't know if there's a better all around combo than that!

Like the mexico blue idea tho-

hbrand 06-22-2007 06:36 AM
