Clunking rear
I recently returned from a 1000 mile trip, and I have developed a clunk from the rear, only when starting off. Managed to get underneath it today and everything checked out ok but it seems that the driveshaft and rear shock are hitting every now and then. I have had the car corner balanced and aligned. The car is a 72T, neatrix bushes, bilstein sports on the rear.
Anybody had this happen or offer any suggestions? TIA |

Make sure your wheels are tightly bolted

I had a similar problem once. A bolt was loose in a rear trailing arm.

Lots of possibilities - CV joint in mid-failure or coming unbolted from flange. Broken sway bar mount. Engine or trans mount failing. Broken engine crossbar. Try those first...

Check the torque on your CV joint bolts.

I vote for CV bolts or CV failure.
Best, Tom

I had a similar problem, drove me nuts as everything seemed "tight" under & back there. Finally, found that after I had the rear wheel bearings replaced, the guy I hired to do the job didn't tighten the big crown nut down completely. Once that was done right, the start off "clunk" was gone.
