Not an air cooled 911, but a Guards Red rear engine Porsche nonetheless.

My original Indischrot late-'83 SC with matching painted Fuchs BTW, "Guards Red" and "Indian Red" are indeed synonomous, since the color was introduced starting in 1973. For example, the factory sticker in my front luggage area states "Indischrot" whereas my factory paint brochure for '83 (printed for the North American market) states "Guards Red". The exact formula for the paint color may have changed over the years--I don't know for sure one way or the other. But the names "Guards Red" and "Indian Red" are totally synonomous as a standard factory red color beginning in 1973 (and continuing at least through 1989). Furthermore, I have never seen a Porsche paint code termed officially in German as "wachenrot". Glasurit doesn't list it for any Porsche made during the entire history of the company. I'm afraid that all of the previous posts referring to their paint as "wachenrot" are in fact referring to "indischrot", a Porsche factory color starting in 1973, which is sometimes translated into English as either "India Red" or "Guards Red". The former may be common in British English, the latter more so in American English. |
