paint color on targa/carrera emblems?

I'm replacing the old emblems on my 85 Targa Carerra after having it painted; does anyone know if the "targa" on the roll bar is originally silver or black? My car is black everywhere.
The old one which came off it looks like it was silver.

Also, the carerra emblem on theengine cover was black and looks just like the one I am replacing it with. Is it originally black too? I've seen several different color variations on other cars.

All help is much appreciated!

The 'Targa' emblem was most likely black from the factory.
I assume that the 'Carrera' would be the same, but I am not sure.

My car has silver targa scripts and a black carrera script. I'm not sure if the silver script is original, but I like the way it contrasts with the black roll bar. I'm not a fan of the body-colored badges.

Not 100%, but I'm pretty certain that the targa and carrera emblems are originally black.

Janusz 10-31-2007 03:51 PM

I'm in the same dilemma. My original targa scripts are a bronze color and the engine carrera script is black. I have a couple of spare targa scripts, one set being silver and the other black. Haven't decided which ones to use.

The targa bars that were silver (early targa's) had black script and the targa bars that were black (later targa's) had silver targa script. Any black/black script will certainly be a respray of the bar as getting the script off can be tricky and involve removal of the inside of the bar trim.

I have a 75 Carrera Targa which is all Black. The targa script is also Black. That is the way it was delivered. Hope this helps.

Here's a picture of the Porsche website, Classic section. This is a 1976 targa and both scripts are black.

Do a search on ebay for "Porsche 911 brochure" and you'll find either the black or silver on a black bar. I'm guessing both were offered?

Wow. This is great! Thanks everyone. I was getting bummed no one was responding but I just needed some patience.
My 85 emblems which I removed prior to painting are black on the side of the lettering and brushed silver like on the top. This is nice looking and for this year looks original. Either way will look *****in.
Since I purchased this targa; I get waved at on the road, in parking lots, etc. by other pcar drivers,
farmers in the field, kids in parking lots riding with their Mom's. I love it! I just sold an S430 Mercedes sedan I loved and no one knew that car. This is like a club of instant friends.

OK, so where are the obligatory pictures of the car, huh? :)

Mine were silver in color; when I took them off to have my bar resprayed, they were black on the backside...the sun must have been the reason mine were silver.

A good giveaway if they were originally black is look at your window trim; the metal piece between the squeegee and the door; if it is faded to a silver/grey patina, then your emblems most likely faded to silver. If it is beautiful and black, then you had silver emblems and you need to sell the door pieces to me!!!!

Funny, I just sold my S430 7 months ago and bought my baby 85 too

Yeah Pcar Owners are much friendlier than the Cars they use in Europe for Taxis :p

BTW, my Targa & Carrera Scripts are Brushed Silver.

Funny we have/had same vehicles. My S430 had an AMG sport package on it/ white with tan interior. Very sharp. Kids loved the humongo back seat.
I'm trying to figure out how to upload my car photos... could you please send
photos of your 85 Targa/Carrera emblems in silver?

beautiful auto! 85? I like the wheels, brakes, tail too! I'm going silver on the emblems. Your post makes it easy! Gracias.

DRACO A5OG 11-01-2007 11:28 AM

Gracias Tambien!

Trully it's an 85.

When I saw it, I was suprised how good the condition was for it's age, it was a no brainer for me. The New engine helped too.

The wheels are 17" Turbo C2's staggered, handles great and it gives it more updated look. I love the Old School Fuchs but did not complain.

Brakes, believe it or not, I just had it spray painted with red engine heat resistant paint, very easy, jack, wheel off, mask, dust off & paint. :)

Tail was factory ordered and installed according to the PO, It looks fast just sitting and helps the A/C ;)

I love working on it, as long as I do not have to drop the engine I can work on my baby. Funny, I never touched my S430. Working on my baby reminds me of High School days when I had a 66 Mustang, she was a breeze to work on.

BTW, PLEASE POST YOUR BABY"S PICS.

My 81 has silver targa badges,-or at least silver now after 26 yrs..

haileypcar 11-08-2007 10:27 AM

I decided to put the emblems on as black. That's the way they come from Porsche and it looks like
(my body shop guy pointed out) the old ones used to be black and have just lost their sheen due to
age/washing, etc. So- black it is! Easy to snap in place for roll bar emblems.
