Brake caliper removal w/o impact wrench?

I am redoing the brakes (rotors and pads) on my 70T. Dust cap removal was a hassle but got it done. Is it possible to get the caliper bolts off without an impact wrench? They are really tight.

Yes, you should be able to remove them w/o an impact wrench. Soak with PB Blaster, and try again. You may need a breaker bar for your socket, but they will come off.

use a six point 1/2" drive socket, very small extension and 1/2" drive breaker bar. Add longer outer sleeve (pipe) to breaker bar if more leverage is necessary. Ensure overlap of pipe is at least 8", preferably 12".

Just pulled them of my '69 this week. Very easy w/o an impact wrench. Now, getting my stuck pistons out it a little more trouble, but I'm getting there....

Got it off, thanks. From what I've read getting the dust cap off seems to be the hard part. Mine came off easily. Little scary - my first brake job.

glad you got it off.

remember when you use any kind of extension or breaker bar, loosen the bolt on the downward stroke, so that you can control your movement when the bolt breaks loose. If you are on the upward stroke, you can lose your balance and fall backward, causing injury or damage to the tool, car, etc.

Thanks rusnak. I learned that the hard way getting the springplate bolts off my old 78. They gave suddenly and I almost sliced my wrists open on the underside of the fender.
