MFI Diagram? Routing hoses?

I have a 2.4l MFI motor in my 914-6. I'm trying to determine what/where the hoses/fittings go. Unfortunately, the 914 or 911 manuals are not accurate for my situation.

On the rear (bottom) of the air cleaner assembly is a "T" fitting. One hose (larger) goes to the oil tank vent and the other, smaller fitting has me stumped.

Next to the "T" is a smaller hose fitting that has nothing connected to it.

Also, the MFI pump has what appears to be two hose fittings (on the thermostat housing, as seen in the vicinity of "28" in the diagram below), pointing in two different directions. What do these connect to, if anything?

The smaller arm of the "T" fitting on the back of the air cleaner is the suck side of the vapor recovery system - pulls from the charcoal canister. There should also be a brass mesh-type insert in the "T" to perform as a flame arrester. The small tube on the bottom is a condensation drain which should have a tube connected to dump overboard. On the MFI housing thermostat one (lower, I think) is the entry point for hot air tapped off the driver-side heat exchanger which is then exhausted out the other opening. I think this is correct - I'm new to the MFI cult myself. And loving it.

OK. That clears up everything.

But, how do you get hot air to the MFI t-stat if you don't have heat exchangers?

No clue - Grady and some of the other MFI gurus undoubtedly have the answer to that.
You have headers, no heat exchanges? If it's race only there might be a solution, but for street use I think a set of SSIs would be a better solution than jury-rigging the thermostat's mixture compensation.

Yes, headers. Do they make SSI's for 914-6's? Does anyone make heat exchangers for 914-6's? I'm moving to a colder climate and will need heat eventually.

Edit: Gulp. Just found some...$1975.00?!? I'd rather freeze...

That sounds high.

If all fails, check in with John Daniels at Stainless Systems. They're in Novato, CA. I'm on vacation at Lake Tahoe right now so don't have my address book with me. Good grief - what does that say when I'm working on vacation and checking in at Pelican?

OK, thanks. I'll look 'em up.

I just did some searching and found that the MFI does need heat running to it. What do folks who run headers & MFI do for heat to their t-stat?

Danny,

The correct entry for the thermostat is in at the top, out at the bottom. You are right, it must be working correctly for the MFI system to function. However, the pump can be modified to delete the thermostat, contact Henry Schmidt for his special mod to do this.

See this old thread, with input from the Late, Great Herr Roland Kunz! I like the "Kadach" way.

p.s. it looks like a carb fire has melted the aircleaner, you might heat that up with a heat gun and use insulated gloves to bend it back to shape.

Thanks for the link. The air-box in the pic isn't mine. I did a quick search and added the arrows to a pic I found on the net.
