Should I buy a Bosch hammer

I am thinking of buying a Bosch Hammer to use on a 964. What do other folks think?

Matt

The Porsche Tester is relatively inexpensive now, and does more than the Hammer.

Bosch has an extensive line of diagnostic tools out. They have a unit that hooks up to a car and transmits the info to your comp via bluetooth (KTS570), a small handheld (KTS200) that is very easy to use and a larger handheld (KTS650). They have a different mindset and language than Autologic, but I think the Bosch works better.

Porsche Crest Bosch Hammer

ma702tt,

A Hammer is a very specific tool and are still quite pricy when you can find one.
I recently sold my 964 C4 and having a Hammer was critical to adjust the brakes (bleeding) the clutch and working with the PDAS system. All of the hydraulics are tied together and it is not practical to bleed the brakes (or a host of other work) without a Hammer. Adrian Streathers' 964 book is an invaluable tool as well.
The Bosch 9022 ('Hammer') is more available across the pond.

If you own a C2, you are out of the woods. For diagnistics just about any well equipped shop can diagnoise tuning or other issues.

Durametric is releasing a new version of their diagnostic scanner for the 964/993 in about a week. I just ordered one yesterday. It does require a laptop though.

You will be able to shut off\turn on individual injectors and other devices, read codes, reset codes, observe actual values and more. Supposed to do everything and more that the Hammer does. I'll post the results after I try it out.

Alll these things are just too pricey... navigate to rennlist (964/993 forums) and do a search, there are replacements that will set you back no more than a 50 bucks.. All you need is a PC with a serial Port and the interface that you can build and voila!
I have it and I can do pretty much everything on my 964... In fact there are interfaces that will even plot things like temp, RPM, etc... real-time!!

Oracle is the man. I bought a Durametric and it would not work for the PDAS systyem in my 90 C4 - it would do everything else but not the PDAS system and this was news to Durametric (when I called them, they told me that they had just discovered the problem with 89-90 C4's the week before). I did return it and borrow'd the system that the Oracle has and found the user interface to be nicer that Durametric but it also would not get into the 89-90 C4 PDAS system.

Before you buy a Durametric, phone them to be sure it will work for your exact application to save yourself some shipping charges. I still need to figure out what wheel speed sensor is throwing the code periodically so if Durametric has this issue fixed, I would buy another as this would be cheaper than taking to a shop with a Hammer for diagnostics.
