gas door help
I am working on getting my car all back together after painting and am stuck at the gas door release mechanism. After searching i have only found lots of posts saying how difficult compressing the spring is but no tips or tricks on how this was eventually done. If there is anyone who has done this and can offer any advice on how to hold that spring in tension while securing the catch and release cable, i would be hugely grateful.
thanks in advance -felix

I compressed it with a set of channel lock pliers and then put a zip tie aroung the ends to hold it compressed. I am hoping to not have to try to put another one back in anytime soon!
Cheers
