Ebay treasure rare '74 RSR tail maybe?
Am I seeing things? Is the tail on the car below a rare RSR tail? Look at the width of the rubber. I seem to recall TRE CUP mentioning the rarity and expense of these tails.
No affiliation, just curious. JP

That's a regular 1976-era Porsche Turbo Carrera tail. Used from 1976-77 on the 3.0 Turbo cars.

Don't know if it's a RSR tail or rare but it's different (wider) than the tail shown in picture Wayne posted.

It looks like an IROC tail one of my friends had.

Eyeball the distance between the two intake grills. The one in the ad is almost twice the distance of that in Wayne's photo. The rubber looks wider too.

Wasn't the IROC tail all fiber glass; no rubber trim??

I vote for the RSR tail - I have an early turbo tail on my 74 Carrera the same as Waynes photo and the second vent is different and the rubber lip seems to be wider on the RSR tail.

+1 for RSR. specifically 74 3.0 RS/RSR. Similar to the 75/76 carrera/turbo tails but larger. If its real I would say very rare. Here is a good view of one on a 3.0 RS clone

Good to know. I am not interested in buying, it just caught my eye and did not look right. Possibly a good buy for someone to part out.
Thanks guys, JP

That car in question is a rust bucket underneath I don't care what the owner says. The 74 RS, RSR tail and IROC tail are different. The RS had the early narrow Turbo rubber, RSR had a wider rubber as it appears to be on the car in question, and the IROC had the wide RSR all fiberglass tail .

I thought I was right, the IROC tail was made completely of fiber glass.

I'm no expert, but it sure looks like the IROC tail. It's not the standard 76-77 turbo tail. Notice how far back behind the car it extends.

Okay, I see that now. It doesn't look like a stock 1976-era Carrera tail - I believe those didn't have the vent in the back. This one does look longer, it's probably some type of aftermarket one...

Go to the bottom shot, page 66, The Porsche 911 Story, Paul Frere.
The wing is a Carrera RSR 3.0L. It is IROC size but they were all fiberglass, no rubber. The tail alone may be worth the car's asking price for the right person. |
