Thanks for the positive comments! The color is Kiln Red Metallic, the same as Scott's car. It was only offered in 1983 & 1984. I like the fuchs on Scott's targa, the chrome accents the car well. I'll have to look into getting my fuchs refinished when I need to buy tires.

About the headlights, I thought this was a stock look. What type of headlights are preferred?

I took the photos on Redwood Road in Castro Valley.

The US had a requirement that they had to have sealed beam headlights until 1987. That's why US cars had different headlights that the RoW crowd until the '87 3.2L cars.

Here are the headlights that were meant for the car

and here's an article on Pelican describing the "upgrade"
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/mult_h4_headlamps/mult_h4_headlamps.htm

They are also a lighting upgrade because the E-code lights put out a better light pattern than the DOT spec lights.

The wheels aren't chromed -- they're polished and painted by the master, Al Reed. Do a search here on the board about chroming wheels, and you'll find a wealth of information on the bad things chrome does to Fuchs. You're much better off polishing them.

Thanks for the compliment!!

Scott,
I shouldn't of typed "chrome" as I knew your wheels were painted. I'll be looking at taking my wheels to Havey Weidman from Weidman Wheels in Oroville, Ca to refinish my fuchs. He's close enough to me to drive there. I like the silver on the wheels as opposed to the all black look that's on my car.

George,

Very Nice Coupe!!

Any other Ziegelrot Met #811 cars out there??

Hi: I am in the middle of repainting the front spoiler on my car.(bit of roadrash) According to the match that I found at UAP with their paint chips it looks like my car is the rare Ziegelrot. I am going to do a test spray on a metal can and compare it to the rest of the car before I paint the spoiler. I looked everwhere that the paint code should be but no code exists.

Nope! Pulled the carpet, had a good look. The apraiser that did the car for the tax man is a porsche guy and he had a look too. No plate on the drivers side door jamb. No paint code sticker in the engine compartment either. Had to bring the painted spoiler to UAP and compare it to their porsche paint code page from the paint book. According to the forums that paint was 83-84 only. My car is an 82. I guess another one of those porshce quirks.

Paint code was a bit of a puzzle. I have painted a lot of cars in all my years and this was the first time to not find a code. I called the previous owner and he did not know the colour. The guy before him had the spoiler put on and painted by a shop and no idea of the colour code either. They both said that quite a few porsche people had asked about the colour and made the comment that they had not seen it before.

It almost looks like a "candy" colour. The colour changes depending on how the light hits it. It almost looks copper/brown under the florecent lights in my garage. Compare the pasenger front fender to the drivers rear quarter in the picture. Looks like two different colours. The paint is original and in "good" shape, some stone chips on the front bumper and hood but nice enough to leave it alone. The spoiler was cracked and had road rash along the bottom. Not a porsche part so I didn't mind pulling it off and cleaning it up. 3 feet of snow on the ground in front of my house so it gave me something to do.

Hope I can get a good match on the spoiler.

Coulda been a paint to sample. But, even then, Porsche put that code on the plates. Maybe it was resprayed completely at some point too, and lost the color plates in the process?
