2007 Panamericana pictures

Here are a few shots from the 2007 Panamericana Race.
They were taken in the city of aguascalientes, and the others are from the last day of the race, between Monterey and Nuevo Laredo, which is the border city with Laredo, Texas.
Enjoy¡¡

Great pics, brings back memories. I had the privilege of crewing on the 1991class winner in sports minor a 356 it also placed 3rd overall. It was experience of a life time. . In 1991 no modern cars when did that start?

Thank you, Alejandro. The latest incident was at Sears Point (which is not too far from Thunderhill). But it's all been repaired and is in great shape.

Great shots. That's an event I've always wanted to see, or better yet, participate in.

This is the whole reason I have been building up my car, doing DE's etc. I want to do the Panamerica and the Targa Newfoundland before they are gone forever. I am lucky that Nevada has a lot of open road racing options to get some real world practice. Any tips you may have for an aspiring road racer?

Shoepop:
I am almost positive that they started to let modern cars participate 2 years ago, there were 2 or 3 911´s from 1974 to 1977, the white porsche, a saturn, and a few other new cars. They have their own class, but they do not compete against the classic cars.
Danny Ocean:
In order to enter you have to first pay the $5000usd fee. You need to have an early car, I think the it has to be from the late 60´s, since the newest car i saw was a 1966 mustang, or perhaps enter the modern car classs, which is not too big so far, maybe 6 cars at the most.
And you obiously have to pass the saafety regulations¡¡

That has to be an awesome experience. Didn't know about the late cars participations, I thought the cars had to be no newer than 40 year old.
Thank you for the pictures

As far as the age of cars they allow to enter goes, I own the Jaguar special that Nick Mason raced in the 1991 PanAm. It was clearly not an authentic C-type and it was built in 1990-91, which was well before they instituted the unlimited class (or whatever they call the modern car group).

I loved that Pink Floyd La Carrera Panamericana video! The scenery and the footage was awesome.....and the soundtrack!

I remember that car! I thought Mason wadded it up on one of the stages. Great to see it survived.

The Gilmour/O'Rourke car went into a ravine and was written off (but I understand was later rebodied and sold on to an unsuspecting customer!)

I 'THINK' I just remembered who was in the other jag, Alain De Cadenet. Didn't he wrap it around a tree @ Zacatecas pass, La Bufa? I will have to go through pics I think I have a pic of the crashed Gilmore car. If I remember correctly they air lifted him to Texas.

You can run cars at La Carrera Panamericana now that are made past 1990 in the Unlimited Class ... www.TheUnlimitedClass.com ... same rules and regulations more or less ... you grid with the historics ... modern cars can't win the overall trophy, they compete for "La Carrera Panamericana Unlimited Class" overall win. 4 wheel drive turbos make it a bit unfair to compete against the 550hp Studebakers and Olds, altho both classes are doing 200+ mph down there.

Ohhh .. you can also enter your track car too ... need proper ground clearance ...

http://theunlimitedclass.com/drivers-information/vehicle-height/

There are a lot more (10,000+?) pictures on the Unlimited Class site .. poke around ...

Here is a video from the Unlimited Class 2007.
