Any Pelicans in the Frenchlick, IN area?

I posted this in the Regional Forum (Great Lakes) but it does not appear to have much traffic, even compared to other regional forums.

I am looking for any Pelicans in the Frenchlick, IN area, or somewhere fairly close by. If you are, please email me (in my sig). I just wanted to ask a few questions about the area. And it is Porsche related...

Thanks

I spent 5 days in French Lick at a Convention a few years ago....I could show you where Larry Byrd's house is. It's a very small town, not much there, not much close by either.....

What do you want to know? I am in Louisville but I spent 12 years traveling through there once a month.

Well, here is why I was asking...

A few of us have been working on plans to resurrect the SCWDP Roundup that used to occur. We have decided to call it something else, but the main thing was trying to decide to where to have it. This led me to some online research and I searched the US for something that would fit the purpose (meaning I was looking for cities/towns called something like Porsche, Carrera, Plot, Domination, yada yada yada...). I was coming up empty. The closest thing I had found was a Carara, AL. It is south of Talledega, AL, which could be a cool place, but we were really looking for something a little more centralized.

So then last night, I got this idea to type in Ferdinand. Bingo! There are a couple of Ferdinand's in the US, the most central being in IN. It is right off od I-64 and close to the Hoosier National Forest, Frenchlick, and other places. There is at least one newer motel there, a Comfort Inn. The idea kind of struck me maybe calling it something like the Ferdinand Fling.

This is just one idea, but I kind of liked the "ambience" of it all so to speak. It looks like (at least from Mapquest) that there are some nice roads in the area, but I wanted to find out from someone that is up there or at least familiar with the area. I was born in Logansport, IN (1 hour north of Indy) but grew up in California and RI. When my dad retired, we moved back to where my mom's family was from in Cass County (Walton). That is where I graduated from H.S> I know of Frenchlick for the obvious reason, but not real familiar with the area in general.

So with that, those of you who have answered up, what do you think?

Not owning an SC I would be in for it. It would be cool to have something like this close by....

Tony, our idea was to have the SC as the showcase, but certainly open to all 911's, etc...

I Grew up in Indiana traveled all over the state for years. Southern Indiana has some great P-car roads. French Lick, Brown County, Nashville, Bloomington, all have the the resources for a gathering. Beautiful fall touring areas. Cops are thick. Plenty of good places to eat and explore, fall colors are top notch.

Shane, you could just have the roundup ANYWHERE in South Carolina.

It would end up being a hike for a lot more people, though.

French Lick is once again becoming a destination resort since the new casino was built. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.pokernews.com/files_en/cnt/467014c94508c.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.pokernews.com/news/2007/6/room-review-french-lick-resort-casino-poker-room.htm&h=214&w=265&sz=28&hl=en&start=5&um=1&tbnid=lwUWPIKgrFmuwM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=112&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dfrench%2Blick%2Bcasino%26um%3D1%26hl% 3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-USfficial%26sa%3DN
There are plenty of back roads in the area to drive.

Also, the Comfort Inn in Ferdinand is right at the exit and not really in the town itself, which isn't much of a town. About 8 miles away is Jasper and they have a good German Restaurant called the Schnitzelbank. http://www.schnitzelbank.com/

We were on a week long antique car tour centered at the (then) French Lick Springs Resort. The West Baden Springs Resort Hotel has been restores to its early 1900 EUROPEAN elegance and might be worth at thought.

I think I have the tour books with the 5 days touring instructions that center if French Lick. You might also look into the Hiney Winery there (do a google search)

They will not allow a car with oil leaks inside the building. My friend's mom organizes events for antique cars and has used their facility. They are very strict on this.

I think we need to keep the emphasis on the Ferdinand tie to have it make sense. Excursions could be planned though to other nearby attractions. Maybe have a people's choice show and shine, or should that be shine and show?
