Tank To Fuel Pump Line Size

Does anyone know what size (diameter) the small bit of fuel line is that goes from the tank to the pump is? Either proper metric size or what ever standard equivalent will fit. The car is a 78SC.

Regards
Dave

I bought that hose a couple of years ago for my '79SC. The fuel pump input stub is 12mm in diameter. I got it as a fuel hose at a marine supply store, West Marine, here in Los Angeles. They sold it by the foot. From what I remember 1/2" ID was too big, so I got the next size down. I think it was 7/16" diameter. It was a little tight but it worked.

Dave,

Unless you get an 11-mm ID fuel hose locally, the above suggestion is what I would do.

1/2" ID = 12.7 mm ID
ID of the FP inlet tube is about 12 mm.
7/16" ID = 11.1 mm ID

I've been using this standard size 7/16" ID fuel hoses from our local auto supply store (NAPA) for many years now. The CIS bench tester that I use regularly has standard size fuel hoses except for the injectors.

Thanks for the help guys, the only auto parts store that was open only had up to 3/8 which I was able to wedge on there fine. The job was a mess as I ended up covered in gas but had to get the car running so I could get back home to Philly sunday night. It ran fine for the 3 hour drive back but ill check it again soon to make sure its holding up.

Regards
Dave

All vehicles built in Germany come with Metric hose. Most Metric hose has an ID that is 0.5mm smaller than the tube or fitting OD it fits over.

For a 911SC, the tank outlet & pump inlet are 12mm, so the supply hose to the pump is 11.5mm ID. After the pump the fuel fittings are 8mm OD, so the correct Hose is 7.5mm ID.

Later 3.2 Carreras & turbos had a mix of 8mm & 10mm OD fittings, so they used both 7.5mm & 9.5mm ID hose.

The 964 & up typically used 9.5mm hose exclusively.

Today, hose sizes are usually described by ID and wall thickness, such as "7,5 x 3" meaning a 7.5mm hose ID with a 3.0mm wall.

Hope this helps.

Len
