Weight of bare targa shell
Have anybody weighted (or knows) how much this could weight:
'68 targa shell, everything stripped out (including doors, class, front fenders, hoods, suspension, bumbers, interior) ? Sory that this is not really technical question but I need to check if our small trailer is ok for moving this... Thanks! |
I stripped an '87 Targa- It's engine now sits in my '73 Coupe.
Before hauling the tub off as scrap steel, I went around and removed the last few bits & pieces & fasteners from it, and when I stuck my little 3/8 socket to remove the rear bumper shocks, I lifted the entire rear of the car off the jackstands before the nut broke loose. I don't have an exact weight, but I could just about carry the bare tub on my back to the scrap yard. Towing it didn't feel any different from towing the empty trailer. |
Almost done with my '68 Targa and I would say that completely stripped, the tub weighed in around 400-500 pound (2.2 #/kg=about 200 kg). My dad and I were able to lift the tub. We don't participate in the MetRex Strongman competitions and with the two of us it was heavy. With a 3/4 ton Chevy Diesel pulling a fairly light duty double axle trailer the weight of the tub on the trailer provided no problems.

Thanks!
This was more because towing car (Chrysler Voyager) have very small limit for trailer without brakes over here. But this should be well below limit then, thanks!! :) |
~~ 640 lbs. for the bare shell of any 911 or 964
|
It has been a while, but I did weight a bare targa shell (versus a bare coupe shell of a similar vintage) years ago. I believe the targa was around 450 lbs. I recall there was a lively debate because so many folks like to slam the targas for extra weight, but it wasn't much heavier, maybe 30 lbs.
Perhaps this was on Rennlist back when it was Porschelist, might want to do a search there. |
