What is the engine putting out for wheel hp...I don't remember...??
I know your tub is extremely lightened and looks like it screams...tire melting is very easy it looks...
Enjoy the fruit from all of your efforts... :-)

Last dyno test had it doing 275 RWHP at 7000. Car weighs in at events 1975 to 1990 depending on fuel. Best 60 foot launch time was a 1.71 second.

I am however not sold that the car is faster than it was before all the mods. Several have beat me this year that I had gone faster than at last years nationals. Many factors can effect that but it still bothers me. Example is this weekend. An RX-7 with a 400+ HP LS1 engine gave me a whoopin of 1.2 sec on Sat and 2.5 sec on Sunday. The car weighs around 2400 lbs. Last year the car was lighter and ran in E mod at nationals. At last years nationals I was .3 seconds faster than he was. I have to say I a not totally sold on the new hoosier radial slicks. Last year I was running goodyear cantilever slicks.

thx for the info...
as the expression goes...remember the 80/20 rule...I think it goes something like this...80% of the issue(s) is probably with that 20%...I would interpret what you said that probably your tires are the issue = when you hammer the throttle you are not hooking up well = you are slightly to a modest amount spinning your tires = slower times...

I would also lean this way as you have done engine improvements & lightened the car which are positives to decrease times...

just my 2 cents worth...

keep us informed...a great car & thread you did here...thx for sharing...

Bob

Don't know whats next. The car should be great and doing better than I am capable. I think I built a car that is perhap a bit much for me. Track day middle of the month perhaps that will entice me to keep it if it is still around. There is absolutly nothing wrong with the car. It is going to another autocross next weekend and then the track day.

Most likely I am just upset with my own performance driving the car.

I also still have my original red 85 cab.

The car is not too much for you, i think you need more seat time, you need a wider line in some of the turns to get a faster exit, your partner looks smoother there, to get a lot of seat time try to practice in a shifter kart at your local kart track. its quick acceleration and low reaction time will help to smooth out your entrances and exists and rember to hit the apex of the turn just right for a smoother/better exit. seat time cures a lot.

You have mistaken me for not living in the boonies. No kart track around here that I know of anyhow except for some indoor place in Omaha. If the car doesn't sell then more seat time next year.

Woodhouse event, yes I plan to be there. I have registered for both days. I hope the car at least shows some improvment at the track. There anyhow I can quantify any improvment or move backwards. Several hundred laps of the track so I know when things are good or not.

couple of tweeks to the car for the track day. First is the original tank is now back in place. Never had a starvation problem with it in so it will likely stay. With the stock tank I may also be able to make more than a couple laps before empty. Also the exhaust went back to the damn that sounds good pipes. With just a bit of stainless wool to save the ears drums. I swear removal of the muffler just changes the entire attitude of the car.

I had to tie the wool to the screen. I am not sure why but it would suck several inches back up the pipe when the engine was turned off. At idle you can see the wool pulsing to the beat of the engine. When reved it is plastered against the exit screen. The stainless scrub pads total around 4" thick on each side.

And for those who haven't figured it out, in the KC video above my co-driver for the year has the black helmet and I have the white one.

Finally 10-10-10 I got FTD with main local runners in attendance. I finally out paced our local National Champion CSP miata and by a fair amount to boot.

How you might ask.......

Well thanks to advice from Dave Newman at Nationals I removed the 33mm rear torsion bars and went back to the 30mm I was using. I also cranked in quite a bit of neg camber in the rear. I had been running fairly flat due to the stiff bars and effects of the elephant ASP system.

Or perhaps it was just the alignment of the date. In any case I was very pleased.

What kind of effects does the ER ASP swingarm add I was thinking of this instead of 935 swingarms when I go coilover

It adjusts the camber curve to keep the tire flatter. According to Chuck at Elephant you should need about 1* less than you would without the ASP plates.

Well it only took a year but I finally got the quick change torsion bars figured out and how to easily set the height. Probably should get ahold of elephant as the torsion bars I got with the rear setup are too tight to remove through the quick change flange. I went back to my smaller rear bars and they slide in and out easily. I found the trick is know how much sag the bars have.

For my current setup the car sags 3.5" from where the torsion bar is neutral. So to change the bar I just jack up the car 3.5" from where ever it is at. This puts the torsion in a neutral no tension position. Then just pull the bar out. I drilled and tapped the end of the bar with 1/4 - 20 about 3/4" deep. The next step is to just change how high the car is jacked up by the amount you want to change the final height. Then rotate the bar and keep trying slots until the bar slides in easily. It will eventually line up. Once the bar is in on both sides then let the car down. My car needs a little more bar on one side than the other so I jack it up until the wheels are off the ground then put a 1/2" board under one wheel. I then lower the car back down and jack up until the car raises 3.5". With the board still under one wheel this lets one wheel sag more than the other. The rest of the process is the same. Nothing new here to reveal just thought I would share how I do it. I will probably need to look up my own post to remember how high I need to jack the car up.

I'm not sure how I missed this...you lapped quicker than a champ CSP miata?!? Congrats! I'd be happy with this car.

Progress once again, this time with a new exhaust. Progress may be an over statement. I changed out the dynomax X-flow with a magnaflow 5X8 dual in/out. The car is still no sleeper but I think it may be just a bit quieter. The resonance is definately better. The tone seems just a bit deeper. Jury will be out until spring and I can get it opened up a bit. Everything is loud in the garage.

The internal design of the muffler is quite a bit different. The dynomax has a full X cross flow design. Meaning the X starts at the end of the muffler at the top on one side and ends at the end of the shell on the bottom of the other side. The magnaflow has a straight entry for probably 8 inches then an abrupt X and the another straight to the exit. The magnaflow also uses rock wool for insulation where the dynomax uses fiberglass.

I only need a couple of decible breathing room to stay clean at SCCA events. I am hoping that the magnaflow can do the job without too much restriction.
