Oil Change ...removing old filter

I am changing my oil on my '77 930.

I can not for the life of me figure out how to get the old oil filter out?
There simply isn't enough room w/ the A/C unit and air intake housing taking up most of the space.

I can't imagine that I have to remove the A/C unit to get the old filter out?

I am referring to Wayne's book and my owner's manual, yet both just say "remove old filter" -LOL.

I'll post a pic soon, so you can see what I am talking about, yet if anyone has had this same issue, i'd love to hear what the best solution is,

thanks

I'm sure someone will chime in, but I believe most folks don't unplug the AC but do unbolt it and roll it over on its side towards the fan. Careful though, you don't want to crush the air hose that goes over your fan. (but if you do, it's a cheap and easy part to fix)

Don't need to do either.

Do you have an adjustable oil filter wrench?

You can also get a wrench that fits on the top end of the filter.

Or you can put a bunch of paper towels or newspapers under the filter, stab a long screwdriver through the filter and loosen.

In the future, only HAND TIGHTEN the filter, does not need to be tight.

oil change question

I asked this same question about 3 months ago, got lots of great advice. I ended getting a "three pronged claw" oil filter wrench and it worked, along with a breaker bar. I bought mine at Sears.

My car is an 87 Carrera, so YMMV.

Cheers,
Nathan
