Rich's new garage thread.
With the addition of a sensible car (35mpg Mazda3) that my wife insists on parking in the garage, my 911 is now sandwiched between the zoom-zoom and the Boxster. This is not going to work for me. The Ducati is stuffed into a corner with my large tools and I can't get to anything without moving 5 other things. So...new garage!
I know this looks big, but it is packed with stuff. You can't even open the passenger door on the Boxster (and I need to get back there...there's a dead mouse in a glue trap and he's going to start stinking pretty soon). ![]() Here's where we're at right now...the red stakes with blue tape are the corners of a 24' wide x 36' deep structure. The size and orientation is limited by the location of our underground propane tank and other utility boxes. We break ground tomorrow and I want the 911 and Ducati parked in there by Christmas. ![]() From the back side.

Oh, I love garage projects!
I wish I had that kind of yard space to put another garage in. I have felt the pressure of the garage takeover. I have been semi successful in preserving my space but I have to make room for the Nissan to park in the cold months. I think that another garage is cheaper than a divorce!!! Hope it goes well!

Are you planning on parking end to end in the new garage? Just wondering because mine is 40 ft deep and I wouldn't want it much shorter for end to end parking. Nice cars!

Awesome. Please keep the pics coming.
I have to clean the garage almost every other week just to get around. I respect that my wife needs a space, but it is all the other misc clutter that comes from the main house. Let me dream through you fellas. POST PICS. POST PICS....

new garage
plan ahead, you might want a 4 poster hoist. That was the best investment I ever done.

Why just a garage? I'd make a barn / workshop - have enough room for everything you could want to do.

My neighbor just built a 3600 foot garage. He races offshore boats. Good luck!

I would love to have a huge space for a proper garage. The only problem is that I couldn't live in Naples Florida. Life is full of choices.
When I lived outside of Orlando I had a 4-car garage with central air. I got spoiled. Here in Naples that same garage would be more than my total net worth. Good luck with this project. Richard Newton Ultimate Garage Handbook |

Wow! Good luck on your project Rich. Have you taken a look at the "Ultimate Garage Handbook"? It might be of help as it has poiters on new construction. I also agree about accomofdating the lift. I wish I would have provided a recess for a scissor lift when I was building the last stall.

I've already got Richard's book and a lift is definitely in the plan.
Today's update: Big freakin' hole in the yard. Note the black hose running across the picture and the black circle on the right. The hose is our temporary propane line. The black circle is the 500 gallon underground propane tank that has to be moved because it's one foot too close to the new structure. That was the only glitch today. There was a really REALLY close call with the phone/cable conduit and the water line, but Scot's luck was with him. ![]() Another view of the hole and the old propane line which had to be relocated because it can't run under a building. ![]() One more shot of the rear. Lots-o-dirt and 4 less trees than yesterday. ![]() Tomorrow the hole will be finished, the foundation forms will be built, 4 more trees come down (or up, as the case may be), and the brick guy comes over to see if he can match the bricks on our existing garage. Foundation pour is Wednesday.

Rich, you bastage, you haven't mentioned that you're going to prance around nakid in your bunny toe slippers on your HEATED slab concrete floor.
Signed Rusty "my shop is still bigger than yours at 3000 square foot" Heap, but yeah my toes are cold. I'll start the bidding for photos of Rich in Bunny Toe Slippers at $50, and yeah, I take paypal. Rich's website attached for ease of shopping. Link: www.BunnySlippers.com

I thought about that. But I've found the more space you have the more stuff you accumulate (see George Carlin clip above). Nature abhors a vacuum. I have enough stuff right now and a 24x36 will be just right. Ask me that question in a year though.
