RS front oil cooler - how to route the oil lines?
I've just embarked on my next project - turning my 86 Carrera into an RS clone (I know...don't say it
). I want to replace the fender-mounted Carrera oil cooler with a front mounted one, but I'm not sure what's the best way to route the oil lines back to the thermostat in the rear. I'd like to route them away from the front jack point where they go under the car, to reduce the chance of them getting crushed.I also don't care much for them being visible from the right side of the car like the current hard oil lines are. I don't plan on using stainless steel braided ones unless I really need to. For you guys who have this arrangement, how did you do it? Would they be safe mounted further inboard so they're more hidden? |

The stock location is the most protected for the longitudinals unless you want to run them through the cabin
Once you get to the fender well there are 2 choices 1)use braided line to go around the inner edge of the tub 2)run braided hose through the tub here's an example of #2, a factory RSR ![]() ![]() and an example of #1

Here's a few more. The silver and orange cars are not mine, but are from my photo stash. The notated fender cooler is mine and shows how I plumbed my front cooler and fender cooler in line together. I went w/an Elephant Racing kit.
Hope that helps, Tom ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hey, that's my cooler! I guess I don't have to mention what I'd do.

Sorry for taking credit for that one Ryan! I though it was my car! I had that photo in my stash and must have used it to help me plumb my lines - Thanks!
Tom

These are some interesting suggestions...thanks. I'll probably have to keep the routing the same from the rear of the front fender to the back. Now I just need to decide if I want to replace the entire length of the hard lines with new hose.
