Engine and trans mounts

I was replacing my engine mounts today with new sport mounts and I ran into something I can't sort out. On the left side, both washers were placed with the concave face against the rubber, which seemed to make sense - they fit over the rubber in the mount.

When I pulled the right side mount, the lower washer was placed with the concave side facing downward, against the crossbar. I was pretty sure it was wrong, but I wanted to make certain so I went to the authorities:
  • Bentley doesn't give any indication of the proper orientation in the text and in their diagrams the washers appear to be flat.
  • I can't find my '101 projects' for direction. Anyone have theirs handy?
  • I searched here for pictures or clear answers, but found nothing but pictures of WEVO bling.
I still think the left side was correct, but in seeing pictures of trans mounts in recent posts, it seems that the mounts were designed to have that side against a convex surface. Then I found descriptions where some trans mounts used one washer while some used two.

Does anyone know the single, undeniable truth to this? I didn't have time to get to my trans mounts to see if they have one or two washers, but I'll be replacing them tomorrow.

My understanding was there are two ways for placing the washers:

() or )( but not intermixed. Both set ups give different stiffness.

This thread, motor mount washers - which way round?, debates the issue and concludes that the factory mount looked like this:

What is the story on the engine and tranny mount washers? The Bentley manual recommends the opposite orientation than what's shown in the above picture. What does everyone here do?

Okay, I read the attached link, I guess the factory says either way is alright.
