Sloppy seconds..!
..and thirds, and fourths, etc... New guy here learning about my 911SC. Shifter is very sloppy (at least to me, not much experience driving 911's). Shifting is also not very "precise"..
Is there a bushing (or set of bushings) in the base of the shifter that would maybe tighten things up a bit?? If so, how difficult are they to change? I'll be searching the forum in the meantime. Also, what about the short throw kit I see advertised?? Thanks! Rob ![]() |

There are 2 typical culprits, the base of shifter cup (bushing) which is real easy to change (and cheap) and the rear coupler (back end of the floor tunnel) which is more expensive and harder to do (actually the install is easy, the adjustment of the position is not easy).
On the coupler, there are better options than the factory one (wevo for example). In any case, the 915 is not as precise as some of the modern jap grearboxes.

Guys, you can get everything you need from our host.
The basic kit is $23.75 and is part number PEL-BUSHKIT1N Pelican also sells other shifter options for the 915.

Haven't looked at which one Pelican offers. I have a Weltmeister which I don't recommend as it is too notchy.
I'll check and comment.

OK, if you are on a budget, get the factory short shift that Pelican offers if not, I would consider the Wevo or the Rennshift. I have not driven a Rennshift but have heard great reviews, the Wevo is a great piece.

Any owner with a 915 tranny has been down the road you're on. I'd been dealing with the lack of precision and general issues with myh 86 for a number of years.
Recently I upgraded to the WEVO PSJ shift couipling (from our host), in addition I swapped out the motor and tranny mounts for the Tarett solid mounts and while there was still room on my credit card limit, I added the WEVO shifter. Installation was easy and it's surprising the difference these make. In my opinion though If you're only going to do one thing, replace the shift coupling. Others have noted that it's difficult to adjust, but i\I was able to install and get it adjusted in about an hour..

Thanks everyone. A lot of good ideas. Yes, I am on a budget, resto mod on a 72 Vette comes first right now. I think I'll look into the factory short shifter with new bushings and see if that tightens her up a bit.
Thanks again, Rob |

Shift bushings make a lot of difference and not hard to do. New Swepco oil from PP in the tranny and a clutch adjust make a world of difference.
