911 SC Seat Belt Replacement
 

The drivers side belt in my car is frayed and does not retract.
I need to replace it and have found some good used belts.

What is the procedure to replace the belts. I've not done much interior work but need to keep the cost down.

While I am at it, I notice that some of the vinyl on the passenger side rear wall panel is pealing so I will want to replace that also.

Belts-Locate the mounting bolts, remove them, install new belts.

Rear panel-Locate mounting screws, remove, use some adhesive to reglue the vinyl.


Be sure the belts you purchase are in good shape. My used belts came out of a 1993 968, I think.
I figured the newer the car, the better off the belts would be.

3M makes a good spray on adhesive for regluing vinyl. Most parts store carry it.

Re: belt removal, a couple tips as I just went through this:

Some mounting points use several washers -- helps to keep them in order.

To remove the rear side panel:
1. Remove the top trim piece between the side panel and the window
2. Lift the panel an inch or two to unhook the metal tab that keeps the rear of the panel flush
3. At this point it will be secured only by the trim piece along the door frame -- no need to remove this, instead, rotate the side panel clockwise (looking from the inside of the car out) to slide it out.

To remove the seatbelt from the side panel you'll need to remove the plastic guide where the seatbelt enters the panel. On my car at least it had a gap on one side -- open it slightly and slip the seatbelt through.
