i love the a pillar paint tag picture.
an obvious repaint, an old painted over rubber grommet from prior door speakers.
and the light switch cover is falling apart!
makes you wonder what else they skimped on.
+1 on the vin tag a 73.5 and above replacement based on AG vs correct KG

Milt, the car is in La Jolla...if you want to look.

I think "milt! Car Detective!" would make a good reality show.

For that kind of cash I'd expect a 99 point restored version ..... or a 1972 Ferrari 246GT....

Paint tag says OG color was 330 which is Gemini Metallic. I would also look at the VIN tag stamped on the body. For 80K you could buy 2 really nice early Turbos.

Hummmm, interesting decision, from my perspective; current GT- 3 or this '72S ??? I think, if I were to spend 80K, I'd go with a newer GT-3 with no questions or drama.

Looks nice but I agree it should be perfect for $80k and its not.

Surprised no one has mentioned this - oil filler is in the engine bay AND its a '72 with external oil filler? This probably means non-original engine...?

Wow! Just went to the web site and found this, engine #6231732 --doesn't that translate into a 1973 E engine? No forward oil tank, mismatched engine (not even a factory S) for $80K?

Wow! I completely missed that. Wonder if it even has the 72 oil tank.

For a more obscure "what's wrong with this picture", the oil sender on a 72 is back on the themostat.

Heck, for half price, you guys could buy mine.

I am in the same camp. Although a Ferrari 246 Dino would be nice at that price.

A few more:

73 shift boot, which could also mean the later linkage (not a bad thing)
73 headrests (should be flatbottom imho)
Late hood badge, should have orange/red solid bars

As far as pricing.... yes there are Early S's that can bring this coin...but this isn't one of them. Original low mileage cars, and over the top resto's are still still bring this money and then some.

Too many issues with this one...

Here's my 72S, metallic blue, sunroof, all receipts from new, 63K documented miles, original window sticker, etc.

I haven't shown my picture as much as Paul has

I don't had any experience myself with Symbolic Motors, but be careful... Make a search on this forum, There is a guy who bought a white car similar to this one, but it had a lot of "R" modifications on it ; I think he pay quite a bit a money for it and the car was not as expected in term of qulity or compare to what is was supposed to... He' doing a complete restorations on it ; again...

it is my opinion that if you are going to spend 'collectible' money on a car you need to be shopping with the right people.

it is also my opinion that almost none of those people are dealers.

further i have come to believe that just having the checkbook does not mean you are gauranteed a chance to buy from said people.

for that kinda dough you want a car that has passed through some very knowledgable hands and is a known quantity.

i'd be willing to wager that this buying philosophy will score you a better product more often than not.

I actually asked for opinions on that car - some of the folks around here can look at a picture and come up w/ stuff I just can't. Some of the posts in this thread represent that knowledge.

That I decided - a long time ago - that I prefer early, narrow-bodied 911s with drama over new ones is certainly interesting, though.

Best,

I wonder if this car has made a few trips Across the waters ...

The Badge on the dash (Porsche Club of JAPAN) may just be a hint.

Knowing the history at this price would at least be interesting.

I will pontificate . Perhaps sold a few years ago to a Collector or wanna be collector with a fat wallet in the land of the rising sun.

...global economy ... bad biz ... bad $ or "Y"

Now perhaps trying to return the favor ???
