Electric seat control question

The drivers seat has two switches on the side. The forward one controls the lower cushion's angulation... What is the rear switch supposed to do?

I have just swapped out an electric non-sport (comfort) seat for an electric sport seat. The rear switch on the original seat never worked and I figured I would finally find out with the swap. But again only the forward switch works, the rear doesn't seem to do anything...

What are the odds of having two bum rear switches or am I missing something?

BTW... '87 Carrera

They both control seat bottom up/down. As long as there are manual levers on either side of the front of the seat bottom for manual forward/ rearward adjustment and seat back tilt.

The front switch controls the seat bottom front elevation,

The rear switch controls the seat bottom rear elevation ..

I understand that's the logical answer... I just needed confirmation.

I took the switch plate off and pulled out switchs and I see that they are hard wired and not with a coupling... so much for swaping out the switch with the passenger's or something.

Any suggestions for trouble shooting this problem? Switch vs seat motor vs ????

These switches are famous for failing..Do a search for seat switch rebuilding/ cleaning...many posts about it..

As for being hard wired, there should be about 10" or so of wires on the back side of the switches that run through the seat cushion to some connector..If you look hard enough you will see how they run and I do not know why you could not switch out a known working switch with a non working one to see what would happen..

This image is from a sale add on e-bay to show wiring of switch..not my photo or sale...no affiliation

Thanks Greg... that comment about the tail length is exactly what I wanted to know...

I really appreciate the extra efforts and photo.
