Brake Caliper Rebuild - HELP

This seems very simple but I need your help.

I am in the process of rebuilding the REAR calipers on my 88 Carrera. All is great until try to put the new piston dust cap on. The cap has the metal hoop inside the rubber cap. I have ruined 2 caps and just cant seem to get it on. WHAT IS THE TRICK? It has to be something simple but this has me a little bummed out.

I appreciate your help!

I assume they are the stock calipers. I am not sure there is really any big trick. I would just make certain the piston is fully retracted into the caliper and lubricate the inside of the rubber boot with a little brake fluid - inside of the metal band. Slide one edge of the boot of the lip of the caliper around the piston, then use your thumbs to 'walk' around the edge of the boot, each in the opposite directions until they reach 180 from the initial starting point. Again, make sure piston is retracted into the caliper. It's a little tricky, but not that hard.

+1

I had to get some sort of a metal cylinder that was just the right size to get them on. They are a pain.

I got them half on, clamped a block of wood on the side that was on, and pushed them on the other side with the blunt side of a screwdriver.
