The 917 ringtone

So it's been about a year since I "created" the tone and handed it out but now I have my very own website RaceTones that the tone is hosted at.

It's on the "Tones" page under the Porsche category, it's labeled "The 917 tone", and you can either listen to it or right click it and save it for yourself. Enjoy! SmileWavy

How do you get it into a BB Bold?

vulcan300 02-26-2010 09:15 PM

Google answers all questions

How to make a ring tone for Blackberry.. You just need to turn the 917 audio clip into an MP3 first.

Step
1
Pick songs for ring tones and save them on the computer's music library as MP3 files not ".wma" files, which aren't compatible with a BlackBerry.
Step
2
Transfer songs from the computer to the BlackBerry by connecting it to the computer with a USB cable. Open the BlackBerry software and use the Media Manager to copy songs from the computer's library into the ring tones or "Tunes" folder of the BlackBerry to make them available.
Step
3
Change the current ring for all calls to a new tune by going into "Profiles" and choose the "Normal" setting. In the submenu, choose "Edit" and scroll down to the "Ringer" or "Tune" line, which brings up a submenu of all of the available ring tones. Choose the newly downloaded song and confirm the changes.
Step
4
Find in the phonebook specific callers to get upgraded ring tones and highlight the name for which you want to make a customized ring tone.
Step
5
Click the "Menu" key on the BlackBerry and scroll to the "Edit" option, then click the "Menu" key once again, which brings up another menu.
Step
6
Scroll to the "Add Custom Ringtone" option and click it. Another menu appears showing all of the ring tones saved in the "Tunes" or "Ringtones" folder. Choose the appropriate tune for that caller.
Step
7
Confirm that you save the changes you made when the confirmation screen appears.

Here is a pretty good description of the user-vicious process that iTunes runs you through:

You should be able to download it and then import it into your ITunes page. From there it should be just a simple transfer into your phone.

The iphone doesn't use MP3s for ringtones. They have to be converted into an M4A file and renamed with the M4R extension.
Basically it is ridiculously complicated to insure the iTunes site gets its pound of flesh.

Correct....hard to believe but it that 17 seconds is the only part in the whole movie where it's just pure 917 sound. All the other times it's accompanied by either music or quick camera shots to the other 917s and/or 512s.

I'm going to see if I can convert it and post it for the Iphone users....

917 screaming

This soundtrack starts at 31:49 in the movie Le Mans.

The race cars have just competed the first lap of the 1970 race and the lead car (a 917) is coming thru the final turns leading to the grandstand strait away. The climbing revs and massive engine scream happens as the car flies past the stands.

Wicked awesome!

Check the website now (Tones page) as I put an M4R file (IPhone ringtone format) on there with instructions on how to get it to the Iphone. SmileWavy
