Bob, the car is actually black, a very poor respray at least 10-15 years ago. Original color is Gemini Blue and that's what it's going back to.

Hey Shaun, My son brought home some RE-11's from the U.S. for me last month. These tires sure look aggressive, more so than my old toyo RA-1's but definitely not as sticky. They will sure look good mounted on some Turbo rims.
Is the rear track on you car the same as an SC? If not I would guess that you will either have to use spacers or a later style banana/hub combo to get the tire to clear both the inside and outside. Am I whistling in the wind?

Hi Johan, good questions. The rear track is the same, I'm even using rear control arms from an 87. The wheels have proper offsets and I have a custom high clearance rear oil line set-up so I should be OK with fit. Here they are on the 87 when it was whole, and then post-crash.

Here's some Gemini Blue goodness for inspiration, Shaun.

Thanks Jim, I can't wait to go to paint, hopefully in August, when all this is done, I still have to make fenders. Might do something with an Alpine White stripe but probably not.

Getting ready to place a sheet metal order. I'm going factory on all parts but the only available outer rockers are 965 and are designed for the much beefier L shaped kidney bowls. The 965s will work with early kidney bowls, extra welding required from what I understand, but I think the later combination would make a significant difference in strengthening the car.

Early car prices are rising fast, oddly, though I have no plans to sell the car for a long time. It’s a rusty old T that I’m doing rear flares on and it will be a hot rod. Not a purists car, though I am in terms of the quality of the parts used.

Any consensus on the plus or minus of using later metal?

OEM 965 rockers and L-shaped kidney bowls for strength

OR

Aftermarket "73" rocker and OEM early style kidney bowl from 97-89 PET

New style gusset, part # 911-507-077-40-GRV

Yes Shaun, the early cars are getting pricier (and rarer) by the day so you should NEVER think about selling this one, EVER!

Now repeat after me, I will never sell my long nose, I will never sell my long nose......

Shaun, have you tried Restoration Design for the missing pieces? Rich got some rocker panels from them a while back I believe.

I can definitely get everything from Restoration Design. I wanted to get all OEM which is 10-20% more expensive, but you have a factory piece. I'm going to do some more research but most likely go with option B.

At such a small price difference it sure is tempting to go with OEM. A number of years ago, I heard that there were some fitment issues with RD but don't know if they have been rectified.

Shaun, just stumbled onto this thread. Fantastic look, but you have your hands full! Wish I was closer to come take a look and provide some helping hands.

I found my 74 wide body in GP white. It should be here next week and then the fun begins.

Hey Mark, good to hear, please send me some pics when it comes in. Wish you were closer too, always good to have another pair of eyes, definitely hands.

Looks like I'm ordering as much plan B factory sheetmetal as I can on Tuesday, outer rockers from Std which I think are RD. This will give me time to continue getting the tub completely stripped down, cut up and ready for when the metal comes in. Have another parts car coming in this week too, that's going to take time away from the car.

Small update, I've ordered all the sheetmetal I need, mostly OEM, it should be here next Friday. Since I'll be painting, I figured I should put a proper face and front door on the garage I made after my original got crushed under 2 feet of snow in January. This was the hardest thing I've ever made, getting it square while welding in everything in 2 days of 90+ heat, was close to impossible. A plus, great use of old silk screen frames I had laying around.

The frame I made, half done.

Reusing the old shelter cover temporarily, new one that will wrap under and up arriving this week

Started making doors with the silk screen frames

Door finished. Found that the old screen adhesive is INCREDIBLY toxic. I'm surprised I still have lungs. Got my respirator out immediately after breathing in some dust while grinding.

Progress and mock-up. Had to make a spreader, nothing is square of course, neither the frame nor the ground. Backbreaking hard work.

Incremental spreader.

Finally just made a buttress to keep it square while welding in the sides. That worked well.

Frame is nice and square, this is end of day yesterday.

Today I got the doors hung and I'm fairly happy with it. New cover is on the way, next I have to panel the front and the doors.

If I had the time I've put into the structure, into the car, it would be ready for Pebble Beach.

For security I have the Watertown Police Department.
