Which tab is it? I believe there are three on top and one on the bottom. If one of the top ones is gone, I wouldn't worry about it, as long as the alternator is secured to the frame.

it's worth a try.

make sure everything is completely clean, not a hint of oil/grease anywhere.

maybe make up a splint to reinforce the tab and increase the bond area.

also rough up the surface to give the epoxy something to key to.

I'd try it, no load. If it doesn't work you've not lost much.

Peter,

JB is very tough stuff, however, you don't want that part to come loose and ingress into your alternator or fan.

If there is no gap, and the parts fit flush, I have repaired non moving plastic components by literally welding them back together with a small soldering iron.

Why don't you check the used parts Pelican website and spend a bit more time on this.

You really want to do this right.

Pelican member Tom Oxner has one for sale.

you may pm me.

Good luck,

Gerry

Orientation of air deflector

The deflector can only attach one way on the back off the alternator, right? I mean you cannot reverse the orientation of the deflector by mistake can you? Here is how I have it fitted..is this right?. I'm sorry for the bother,it just looks wrong for some reason.I have to say it fitted on perfectly this way..thank you and regards, Peter.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270774355.jpg

It looks correct to me Peter, I say this based on the cutout in the deflector body located on 'top' of the Alternator revealing the voltage regulator.

Here is a shot of mine during disassembly - it is undone, but the orientation if very similar.

I made a boo boo on mine during install you might want to be aware of. somehow I managed to gouge a chunk of insulation on the large gauge red wire. The smaller forward deflector hole edge caught a kink in the wire.

Peter

If you are going by what I said earlier about JB weld or plastic welding. they are two different procedures.

One is JB Weld, a two part epoxy that can be used to glue the parts back together or actually welding the plastic together or you can reform the part if a piece is missing with a plastic repair kit like the one that Eastwood sells.

If you need a deflector I can sell you mine, my car has been off the road for eight years now so a few more days won't matter.

Hi Lorne

Thank you kindly for the helpful tips.I have read them and will keep them in mind if and when I use a commercial product described.I have jury rigged the deflector somewhat and will give it a go.What I have done is this. The broken bottom tag on the deflector snapped off leaving a small ridge above it.I have built a foundation on the the rear of the projecting alternator bolt the one open for the air deflector tab to fit over(broken one)...here just a sec..This picture should give you a better idea about what I'm talking about.Thank you very much for you offer of selling me your deflector. It's appreciated.

Best regards,
Peter

Looks good! Sand the bottom nice and flat. Put a few dabs of JB on the rivets of the vanes, they tend crack as well.

pete917 04-11-2010 02:32 AM

can you use magic goo on any material or only plastics?

URY914 04-11-2010 05:54 AM

I've used it on aluminum and metal.
