Petronix Ignitor issue is it my coil?
I have a 1969 porsche with cid ignition and points. I replaced the points with the pertronix ignitor, following the CID instructions from these forums, however it runs extremely rough. Can anyone tell me me if the coil i have and it's resistance included below is the issue? On various websites it indicates a primary coil resist of 3.0 ohms is required but this accel 8140 coil has a primary rsistance of 1.4 ohms.? Please note, when I ordered the ignitor Pelican Parts was out of stock on the coil so I went with what I had. Thanks in advance to anybody that can help me with this.
My coil details Accel 8140 Super Stock Ignition Coil The 8140 Accel Super Stock ignition coil is an excellent high performance replacement for all domestic and import cars that use a points style ignition system. The 8140's windings have been re-engineered for even higher energy output which results in quicker starts, improved throttle response, and more high rpm power. Positive contact is ensured due to the 8140's special crimped and soldered connections and the heavy duty black alkyd tower protects against flashover to primary terminals. Primary resistance: 1.4 ohms. Secondary resistance: 9.2 k ohms. Maximum voltage: 42 k volts. Finished in Accel Yellow, order Accel 8140C for chrome finish. |

I have the Petronix system in two of my cars and both have the Petronix coil and have had no problems. My TR6 wouldn't start with the original coil but when I replaced it with the Petronix coil all was good. You do have the red wire wired to a hot key actuated terminal ?
