Wheel balance weights - how much is too much on a 911?

I'm wondering how much wheel balance weight is too much for a street use '74-'89 Porsche 911, specifically the front wheels (if it makes a difference)?

Is 4.25 ounces too much? One strip of 3.25 ounces and two strips of 0.5 ounces?

This is puzzling to me. This wheel is a new 3-piece wheel with a new tire that was road force balanced using 0.5 ounce total weights. It turns out the wheel leaked air so the wheel had to be resealed. After resealing the tire was remounted and rebalanced (not sure if it was road force balanced or not). Now the wheel/tire is balanced using 4.25 ounces of weight.

I'm used to seeing 1 oz of weight at the most on my wheels and tires so to see 4.25 ounces seems excessive. That's a lot of sticky weights to potentially fall off the wheels!

I assume the wheel was put back together correctly. In this case the wheel manufacturer did all the work, including tire remounting and rebalancing.

I would get it redone. I don't like to see more that 1.5 oz on any wheel. If it's possible dismount the tire & spin just the wheel and see how that turns out. You may have to "match mount" the tire and rim. heavy spot on tire with none heavy spot on the rim. It takes a bit more work, but it is worth it.
Good luck.

That's over a quarter of a pound of weight. If the tire was off that bad, I wouldn't buy it. If the wheel is off that bad......what are your options?

I have about 4 oz on one of my front wheels on my race car. I think the tire was shaved slightly out of round. It seems to be in balance however, no shake in the steering wheel. I'd go by how it drives. If it feels smooth and the steering wheel doesn't shake at 60 MPH then I'd just run it as is. Other option is to remount the tire with a new orientation (try 180 out) and see if it takes less weight.
