Rota Fox Long Term Ownership Results: Post here
I've picked up an 86 Coupe with white 6x7x16 Fuchs and am starting to save for either a set of Fikse FM10s with black anodized centers or a set or Rota's.
Rota's have been on the market for something like 2 years now I think. Owners, how do you like them? How heavy are they? How do they drive? How do they look? Any comparison to a lighter, forged wheel like the FM10s?

For the money, I'm very happy with the Rotas. And everyone who knows me and how I drive knows that I beat the hell out of them (autox and track). They aren't forged, they aren't the lightest wheel... but for what they are they are great.
Purely on the aesthetic side, I think they look fantastic.

I wanted to go with 16x7 and 16x9 in RSR finish but for what it was gonna cost to either find 4 wheels in good shape or have some refinished it would have faarrr exceeded my budget for wheels so I bite the bullet and bought a set of RSR finished Rotas and put Dunlop Direzzas on them. I can't comment on performance yet as I haven't had the chance to go out and beat em up but I can say they are heavier than (obviously) my Fuchs. That said I went from 16x6 and 16x7 Fuchs to 17x7.5 and 17x9 Rotas, the difference in tire weight alone is significant. I can say that they do look frickin sweet though!!!!

For the money they have been great. And the selection of tires are way better than 16's and the 15's these replace has almost nothing high performance to choose from. Looks wise I wasn't sure what I thought when I put them on but love the look now. Had them at auto cross and high speed auto-x. Here are a couple of shots showing weights and a picture of the wheels.

My Rotas have two seasons behind them. AutoX and track with toyoR888´s. No problems what so ever.

I was one of those who pre-ordered the Rota Fox wheels. That was May 07 they were delivered in Dec 07, they have been on the car since then, I'm still happy with them. I dont do auto cross or track the car just street/mountain driving, there have been no problems and the wheels are beautiful to boot. As far as the weight I dont care about a few pounds I cant tell the difference with the way I drive the car. the best thing about these wheels was the price ...less than $1K delivered to my door. would I buy again???? yes

I thought Rota had stopped production on the Foxes...
But back to the subject... I like the Foxes. The price was very 'right' and I can now run a much better size combination of tires. Oh, and the RSR finish looks much better on the car.

I have a set on my 85 Carrera. It is well damped, and I drive down every kind of road you could hope to experience in Upstate NY. They do not exhibit any of the characteristics I would associate with a grossly overweight wheel. They are pounded on pretty hard, and they remain intact.
I think with the rough roads I drive, I would have seen if there were issues. My suspension is healthy and well damped. |

I hadn't heard of such problems. Bunches of negative posts from people alleging such things. ''UH, Not German. Not Forged.'' ''Wheel Bad. Man Bad.'' Mine came with the car when I bought it. I was pleasantly surprised with the performance and looks. Clearly there is a semantic inferiority to these wheels, that may or may not EVER be reflected in the real world. If I had the money, I would go for a nice set of forged Altons. That is I would if I wasn't happy with my current wheels. If one were to do a search, one would find hundreds and hundreds of posts on this topic. I have read them all, and I heartily encourage anyone to do the same. If there is a post about wheel failure, I have not found it. I think there may be one guy alleging wheel runout. I would think if there were problems, they would be front page news. If you have special needs for an all out performance wheel, by all means shop carefully, and buy the best wheels available. No matter what wheel you buy, I would always suggest periodic inspections for cracks or defects, and I would always recommend periodic checking of torque. Loose wheel nuts will get you in almost as much trouble as a loose nut behind the wheel. ![]() See you guys later, I'm out of here.
