GT2 fender flares on 964 body cars

This is the latest evolution l`ve got planned. l held off for a long time because l wanted to keep the narrow body for top speed on the Open Road Races l`m building the car for,but l got bit by the widebody bug.l`ll try to find pics to post but the GT2 flares are a bolt on flare set developed for the 993 body cars.Well of course they won`t fit the 964 body, why bother? Actually they do fit..almost.They will work with a good massage and l like the look of the chrome metric button heads that attach the flares. Also l won`t have to repaint the car for the wider body conversion because they bolt on,and the flares will be carbon fiber anyways.l`ve talked to a guy in Cali who did this to his car and he raved about how incredible it looked.l saw a car at Pomona from a distance with the conversion but couldn`t get near enough to really check it out.Has anyone seen this conversion first hand? Any help appreciated

I can see the front flares being relatively close but the contour of the rear fenders from an SC and 993 are worlds apart.

Also think carbon fiber would look somewhat odd on an SC. Doesn't really fit the age.

Why not just use the 934 bolt-on flares that fit your model car?

I have seen many early cars updated to the 993 widebody look, but they were all done with a complete package-- fenders, bumpers, hood, decklid/spoilers, etc., to make everything fit properly and look integrated and correct. If you're only going to do the fenders to fit a larger wheel/tire package, why use the GT2 flares?

If you want to ask someone who is familiar with this subject, contact John Simone in Vista, CA. He has done several track conversions for himself, Clint Eager, Bob Erhman and others using the GT2, RSR and 993 widebody parts. PCA-SDR just had a tech session last month at his shop/home where he talked about the process.

What Tom said, the GT2 bolt on's look pretty much the same as what was used on the 934s. I'm sure someone makes a 934 bolt-on flare that will fit. Check out GT-Racing.

thanks guys.As for the 934 flares looking like the GT2 parts l can see only one similarity -they both bolt on to fenders. The parts are totally different from every angle. The 934 flares would look totally out of place on my car with the other mods l`ve done and would be a lot harder to fit. l already have 993 headlights,my car looks pretty modern which is why the GT2 stuff will work. l will post pics when done,l was hoping someone who had seen this conversion would post but l may have to be the first.l`m having the flares made now in Carbon fiber and l`ll be in Cali to pick them up next month.

Don't 934 bolt on flairs require turbo style fenders first to actually fit ( I know RSR fenders)?

You are correct sir!! The 934 add on flare goes on to make an 11 flare 14" talk about a big a$$ but cool...

hmmmmm, depends on what look youre going for. do you want it to look like a 993? or do you want a 964 with bolt on carbon flares? if its the latter, great!

i do ALOT of body work and i'm intimately familiar with both body styles. (having worked on both) first, keep in mind anything can be done with body work (honda accords with lambo headlights etc) if someone is going to take actual GT2 flares and MAKE them fit your 964. i would REALLY question the results aesthetically...

the shapes are different. completely. aside from the obvious, lets talk details. the plane where the front bumper meets the the fender is in the same spot, the hood is raised about an inch and a half, the top 'bump' of each fender has more of a slope on the 993 AND its wider. it doesnt have an 'add-on' style flare, its grafted and countoured as opposed to the 964 'flat sides'

the rear countour on the 993 starts imediately following the door jamb (again, as opposed to the 963 flat sides, then add-on style flare around the wheel well) and the plane where the rear bumper meets the quarter panel is i think 2-3 inches higher on the 993...

anyway, long story short, theyre completely different shapes. the 934 flares would fit the shape. otherwise, without a full 993 rebody, it'll look like you 'forced' the gt2 flares on...lay-people will say 'hmm...im not sure what it is, but somethings not quite right'

i'm not trying to discourage you, just friendly advice. i do alot of custom body work, and automotive design/fabrication is something i spend way too much time on....

either way...good luck!

thanks for the thoughts amigo and check my other post "993 lights on 964 body cars" for pics of my car.You may have other helpful advice once you see the actual car.The guy who made the fenders for me seems to feel, like me,that it`s a doable mod without being frankenstein. You`re right though, anything can be done, but should it be? l may or may not complete the flare conversion.Once l have the flares l`ll sticky them on to see if it`ll work to my taste, only then will l really know if it will work or if l even like it.thanks again

Does anyone make a 934 flare for the 911 middle year, narrow bodied cars? Or are they only made for the wide body cars?
