Sound MFI Electric fuel pump

Working on my car (2.4E MFI) yesterday I noticed the sound of the electric fuel pump.
You can hear it spinning and making a bit of a rrrrrrrrrrrr noise.
Since I don't have a comparison, what sound should it make?

Ed

The fuel pumps are noisy. Some more that others. I have a brand new one running my MFI flow bench and I had to hang it on a rubber tie down to make it tolerable.

I have a new Zimms MFI pump on my car and it makes a pretty loud sound like you descirbe. If the sound has suddenly gotten louder than it used to be, something might be wrong otherwise it's probably normal. You could pull the belly pan off and make sure the pump is still mounted properly.

Hows the Zimms pump working out? It is very diffenent from stock but if it works flawlessly I need one.

Continues to work perfectly on my car with a 2.4E.

If you want to stay with the stock design, and price isn't important I noticed that the Porsche "new editions" parts listing now includes the 901.608.105.00 MFI pump.

I found a seller on e-bay selling new stock ones for $255. Flip side is there is always a risk when buying from an unknown on e-bay. With this in mind, Zimms needs to reduce it's margin to make its version more appealing. Most other fuel pumps sell for about 50 bucks.

It is different size and one fewer outltet. Was installation streight forward in the stock location?

Thanks again
Chris

The inexpensive new pumps on eBay have been reported (here somewhere -- do a search for fuelpumpking) to not work well under load. I have one, just haven't tried it.

I moved the pump to the front of the car. Installation on the Zimms pump was simple, it just doesn't need the return connection for cooling like the stock pump does.
