H4 Headlight Question
I already have H4s installed on my car and went to backdate the look by adding clear glass no problem easy enough. Next I went to replace the reflectors with a reflector with glass and noticed some different mountings on the headlights as seen below. The new ones on the right with glass and old on the left and also a pic of the buckets I am using. I can order new headlights but not sure what to order?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1295642392.jpg

wait this could be vw light, or is this for the bracket in later cars...

How will you anticipate controlling beam pattern with clear lens? Yes....1966 or so VW Bug lights had clear non-fluted lens, and that may be what you have. Some folks on this board did post on questions like this some time ago...maybe a search would help.

The clear lens is outside on the body the H4 is in a glass fluted reflector inside.

I am not certain since you don't show the front of the assemblies, but it sounds like you are trying to put H4 "upgrade" headlamps into the "Euro H4" headlamp housings already on the car. This won't work. You either need to get a set of the US DOT "sugar scoop" headlamp assemblies and put in your H4 upgrade lamps (right side of top photo) or keep your Euro H4 assemblies and get some nonfluted lenses from an early 911 or 356.

Look at the 911S registry for threads about this. Old parts are expensive and scarce, often in poor condition and mostly NLA. THe VW aftermarket stuff that some use is often of very low quality. Modern H-4's as has been pointed out don't have glass separate from the lens and can't be used. After spending a lot of time and money trying to do this, I gave up and learned to love my H-4's.

Wah Wah (baby crying) I don't now how so it can't be done! This board has gone down hill...
Lights installed - looks sweet and works great. Best $70 I spent on the car in a long time, clear lenses $30 and H4 glass headlights $40. |
BD..show pics pls as I'm still a bit confused on some of the details....but looks like an intersting mod. Especially interested re: your previous remark in using reflector with fluted glass inside to allow outer clear lens.

I am guessing he has done what I have on my 67. It has the standard US light assembly and he put in some Hellas that use H4 bulbs as a replacement for the sealed beam bulbs.
|
Dave, the known US basis is to use the "sugar scoop" trim rings / reflector design....and not a variant of the Bosch/aero H4 design with clear lens out in front and something else built inside. Details of that is what I'm asking about.
