door interchangability?

I have a 1973 coupe in need of a driver's side door.

Do pretty much all newer doors including SC models and 3.2s fit? What about targas?

Any issues with trim or door strikers that i should be aware of?
(I am not concerned the intrusion bar as long as he door looks stock on the outside and fits properly. I will use RS door panels).

Thanks in advance

You should have no problems especially since you intend to use RS panels. All doors are interchangeable up through 89, I believe, targas included. Remember, however, these cars were all hand assembled and a new door may need some tweaking when installed so all gaps match--there have been a few threads about that situation.

From the factory.....the gaps were fine-tuned with applying molten lead and using a wooden spatula...especially in the awkward upper/front section as it meets the cowl. Doors may fit but gaps may end up wrong.

That is great to know.

I will expect some fine tuning of whatever door I
get.

Thanks!

I am now going shopping for one in the for sale section

Should be no problem there either, window frames are easily transferred. They did change the design of the window regulator, however. The 73 had parallel arms on the window lift and later cars (not sure of the year of change) use a scissor-like geometry. Someone else can confirm if the regulators are interchangeable, though I suspect they are.

Garage
The original regulator of the 73 were updated to newer style. It requires drilling a couple of holes for new mounting points for the screws.
