H4 Headlight Upgrade, Black Trim Ring

I got a set of the H4's with the black anodized ring for my red '86 Carrera. Has anyone installed these without using a painted trim ring? Does it look bad or does it compliment the rest of the blacked out trim? Anyone have a picture?

Kurt:

Bought a set from Pelican a couple of months ago with the black ring. Painted it up and installed with no problems. The ring itself looks great, but I would recommend painting it to match the body colour. Black rings remind me of racoon eyes.

I think that Bill Gregory on the rennlist has/had a white SC with the black rings. I'll see if I can find a picture of it.

Cheers,

I have the H-4's with the black trim rings, and it looks fine on my black car. I would like to get the outer trim ring and paint it to match, but I am satisfied for now.

I will post pics this weekend if you want to see them.

There is a trim ring that slides over teh ring that comes with the kit, and that is the one you should paint. It has 2 holes in it with rubber plugs to cover the adjustment screws, and attaches to the inner ring in one spot, at the bottom.

Hey spinner...is that aducktail on your Carrera? I'm working on getting that setup too. Do you have any more pictures?

I wish my car was white...I'd be putting the Carrera stripes on the side.

To all with dial-up; sorry for that big picture on my last post. I forgot about the size of that image

Anyway, yeah I have a ducktail on the car. I like the earlier look of the RS. One day, I will install the RS spoiler/bumper to complete the illusion. I have a couple more pix on

Dude that's crazy...you and I are leading similar 911 lives.

I've taken my bumper pads off too, although I left my rubber strip to cover up the nuts that hold the bumper on. I even like the holes in the bumper.

I'm installing a ducktail...as soon as I figure out what to do about the chin spoiler...I don't want to go all out with a phat spoiler like yours

I've got the the black headlight rims.

I've got some fat Fuchs on my ride now...they weren't on the car in the photo I posted..

As i said earlier, I wish my car was white so I can create the RS illusion better. I almost traded mine in for a white car even..

Anyway...enough ranting..nice car.

radcon

I got the valance/spoiler from a friend who replaced it with a 964 valence/spoiler. I doubt he remembers the original vendor. I tried to look for it at various manufacturer's websites but couldn't find it. The quality is so so but it keeps the nose down at speed and the price was right (free )

Sorry guys, but those two pictures convinced me that black trim rings are not the way to go. So I scuffed up the black and painted them red to match the car! Already done and installed.

Thumbs up

Good for you, Kurt
If mine was red, I probably would have the trim painted as well. However, the black trim looks cool on white - for me...along with the blacked-out wheels.

I did that conversion last year. Bought the outer trim rins and had them painted to match the car. I'm glad I did because it looks great and very natural. My advice....paint them to match

Is it easy to find a paint shop that will spray a pair of dinky headlight rings for you???
I have a set waiting for me back home...and I'm not sure how I'm going to convince a paint shop to paint them for me.
Any idea of how much this should cost?
