Do you like my new grille?

I made a nice lightweight grille. This is made from aluminum perf metal , some rubber edge molding, stainless hardware. etc. I first installed it, leaving the raw aluminum finish, to see what it would look like against my silver car......I liked it...but then I shot it black..........................and that is my preference. It works with the rest of my trim and contrasts nicely with the silver paint. What do you think?....I like it.

Regards,

Al

PS: I thought that using this perf metal was an original idea....until I ran into Scooter this weekend at a local gathering of the Porsche herd........and he already had done his grille in a similar fashion (mounted under the deck....very cool)...so I have to give credit where it is due...I'm hoping that great minds think alike.

Nice Al, coming along good.

The black looks better for sure.
I would paint the bolts black too...

Great project! They both look nice. IMHO, I like the raw silver look with your silver car. Sorta looks old-school factory race prep.

Looks great in Black. I like the contrasting fasteners and especially edge detail. Nice one.

Al,

Where did you source the materials from, and do you mind sharing how much it cost?

once you go black...

how much does it weigh?

tevake 04-10-2011 07:51 PM

I also like it in black, But would look for more flush fasteners in black. Really does look nice!!
Cheers Richard

Very cool Al. Another vote for the black.

Nice trim work, the black is better. Ditto on painting the bolts, Flush fasteners would look more finished.

I like it! Nice! I also would think black fasteners; maybe pan head type? All black at any rate might be better? I like the work a LOT.

Go into business; I'll help!

Love it, looks great!

I think a lot of guys use the diamond shaped grill, I really like the look, personally I prefer the silver.

Really cool.

Im with the majority as well. digging the black, finished trim and needing black flush mounts

I'll try some black hardware and some SS panhead as well. but, right now... I'm really liking the contrasting hardware...and the sockethead cap screw style.

Randy....much lighter than the 87 Carrera grille that was originally installed (I know it's a 73, but that's what was in there...a lot of the rear end is 87). I making another one, right now, so i'll weigh it and the stock Grille and report back.

Very classy. You could sell these as a kit.

looks Great!
I'm doing the same, but with a finer mesh grill.
Where did you get the rubber molding from?
