PCV 3.2 Does she need it or TEMINATE? How?
Hey Fellas,
How many of you have Capped Off or Terminated the PCV. Pics Please ??? Today my wrench told me if it fails it will mess with the idle, creating a vacuum leak of sorts. What are your experiences? Can it be cleaned? PCV & Rubber Sleeve "baffle" are NLA PAG or PPB so that sucks  Compliment of GH85Carrera: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1293134614.jpg TIA |
Oh Crap, FLAPS has it for $9.99

Hey DRACO, you have a part number / source for the PCV valve?

BTW, what did you do with your PCV??? Jim |
Update: The Baffles will not work, but the PCV looks proper, will install and report

Installed, no change.
Next Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) |
As a rule removing a PVC valve by blocking it off will cause an engine to build up pressure in the crankcase causing it to leak oil like crazy. The layout of the oil system of the 911 motor is a fair bit different from the average wetsump system but I can't see how it could avoid the same problem. If there was any openings that could release the crankcase pressure those openings would also allow dirt into the system.
So either you must have a PVC (which you have found for cheap) or you must have a breather (which would fail emissions). |
I may be wrong, but thermo swtich on the TB opens the path to that hose only during cold weather.
The two large hoses provide all the pressure relief you need, and the vapors are fed into the intake. The entire crankcase/oil tank is under "semi" vacuum, the vacuum that exists after the AFM, but not full intake vacuum that exists after the throttle plate. FWIW, mine is blocked off. No ill effects. |
It's to prevent icing on the throttle body in cold temps.
I just capped it off on my 3.2, but I don't drive it in cold weather. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1311872898.jpg |
Do you have a pic of the cap off? SoCal has no icing issues :D

Hose Clamps
I don't want to intrude on this post put the picture of the PCV with the hose clamps got me wondering. I've never tried to remove that type of hose clamp. Is there a secret?
It looks like it takes a special crimper to replace with the exact type clamp. Do you just open it with a screw driver or something and replace it with a conventional hose clamp? Thanks. |
Oh No intrusion Brother.
Yes indeed it uses a special crimper or a Wire Nipper $12.00 at an Hardware store. BUt only to crimp on, it needs to be destroyed if removed to get it off. So I used the nipper to cut it off but used a Standard hose clamp to put the new PCV valve on around the OEM baffle. |
Oetiker clamps. Easy to put on. Not easy to re-use.

Thanks for the info I will call a dealer tomorrow.

Since the baffle part number indicated here does not seem to fit, does anybody have the correct part number for the rubber attached to the PCV valve (I realized that says valve twice, but it reads better). I want to replace both on my upcoming engine out maintenance cycle. If I can't find it I'll use John Walkers trick of covering it with heat shrink! Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 365k miles |
you can "fix" the cracked rubber sleeve with a short piece of shrink tubing and a heat gun. it comes in all sizes. same for the one in the left upper area of the engine.

ok old post but...
Lots of talk about oil or oil vapour getting sucked back into the intake and becoming smoke. We don't like smoke. Can I disconnect one or both of the crankcase breathers? What if the PCV hose and valve vent the crankcase and don't make it back to the intake?
I know it's not PC to vent to atmosphere without reburning, but I'm talking mechanical issues here. IF my car is sucking oil into the intake, I'll fix it by disconnecting what? Thanks Sheldon |
Pcv rubber piece available at paragon parts for cheap
I couldnt find the part at flaps and have been looking all over, finally found it a paragon parts you have to call them as its not on the website.

3.2 swaps into older cars often eliminate the PCV system, because they forget to pirate it from the donor car. There are many of these cars running 3.2 Motronic engines with no ill effects. I agree the PCV installation on these cars is an unnecessary redundancy because the engine & oil tank have ample breathe-ability with the engine case breather feeding the oil tank, and the oil tank breather being plumbed right back into the throttle body rubber elbow.

Oetiker Clamps
Just in case any of you are interested in using the Oetiker Clamps, which are far superior to the screw on clamps, the installation tool can be found in most Home Depot stores in the Plumbing section for around $60. They also have a few different sized fittings, but you can find all the different sizes on-line.

I agree with Bob that the Oetiker clamps are really nice. The single ear clamps with double banding are the real deal just like Porsche used back in the day. You can get the clamps at McMaster, as well as the pincer pliers he mentioned.
