Fan Housing and pulley touching!?

Just noticed the crank pulley and the fan housing/shroud are very slightly touching! I think this may be the faint metallic whirring I've been hearing. I can tell that they are just barely touching but I'm confused how this happened. They shroud appears to be correctly positioned and the pulley looks perfectly straight. The belt looks perpendicular to the engine....any suggestions?
I'll try to get a pic later.
TIA

Play in the dowel pin hole on the housing? First thing that comes to my tired mind. Loosen up the housing and see if you can push it back a little bit then tighten it back up.

Thanks, I'll check that. I'm also trying to figure out what the "correct" position should be. Should the bottom of the housing be above the pulley or should it be in front of the pulley, i.e. closer to the front of the car in order to not interfere with the pulley. I think maybe there's a good pic in Wayne's rebuild book IIRC that I'll check when I get home.

+1 on giving the housing a good push to make sure it's seated in there well. Darn thing can be pretty finicky from personal experience....

BTDT. Loosen the strap and shove it forward. The housing should be forward of the pulley with a small gap evident.

Mine was same for some time and yes the sound is distinctive. Then one day I noticed it, cursed it, loosened housing strap, pushed it in, it moved 2-3 mm, tightened strap and that's the end if my story. Except that now my fan housing has a pulley groove worn into it.
