jack up the front

does anyone jack up the front, middle of car so you can put both jack stands on both side at the same time, by the aluminum cross member? The answer is a no no?

I use a block of wood about a foot long with my floor jack.( The PO schmucked up the cross member by NOT using anything. )

I then place my jack stands under the torsion bar end caps.

I don't like to put anything there.. I just do it one side at the time then one notch at the time to level up and get a nice settlement of the car on the jacks, takes a long time to drag the jack side to side but at least I know I'm doing it safely without any risk of shmucking anything in there..

Hey Ron,

Lift from front of one of the A-arms as high as you can go then place the Jack under the other A-arm.

Lower the jack carefully then go to the opposite side and raise the car at the wheel wheel where the door hinge is. Lower to the other jack stand. Thats it.

Or just use the jack and a jack stand and lower to even her out.

Jim

+1 never the bar or cross member, they are designed to take the load.

Ooh ouch +1 don't do that with the condenser bar.

The plate will bend, and you might hit the tank if you use the Al cross beam.

I use two floor jacks, and raise both left and right together.

This is what I do now.. got the second floor jack on sale somewhere and find it's very handy to have a second jack on hand.

Draco,
We have been doing that haven't we? But I wonder if I can do it better (quicker and more balance) as lifting it up once, and place 2 jack-stands on both sides at once.

Even if that protector bar is strong, I wouldn't want to ruin the mount points.

I hate it when people say thing like that. I don't want to spend more for another jack, and space for it too. Let beat him up.

LOL Ron!

Yeah, just lift from the front of one A-Arm then place a jack stand on the other and lower to even it out.

or wait for me and I will bring my floor jack.

Jim

Thanks Draco,

also, I have seen pics of broken at that point (front mount of the a-arm). Everytime jacking up at that point, I always afraid.
I wish the other friend (small guy) is still around. Many times, he just lift up my first generation Z on one side, with his bare hands, for me to place my jack stand.

On a 3.2 there is a spot in the middle behind the ac condensor and in front of the gas tank where you can lift with a padded 2x4 and a jack, I think this is pictured in Bentley but I don't remember for sure where I saw it. To lift the back some say you can use the engine block spine. I've done this with padding but don't feel that comfortable so I usually use the back and forth method using two floor jacks lifting with the lolly pop type devices stuck in the side of the frame.

Coxy,
I saw it a while back and it was too expensive. What is that thing called? I like to do some more search.

hcoles,
Me too, afraid to jack at the engine, but I did several times when I was lazy. I usually jack on each side under the arm, where the rear shock attached.

Thanks Coxy.

Question for everyone. This beam stated that it can handle 2 tons. If our car is 2 tons, this thing can handle 1 end of our car fine. If I am using it on my minivan, 6k lbs, one end of the van would be roughly 3k lbs. Meaning I should not use this thing on the van?
