Windshield Replacement in Michigan
In case anyone in Southeast Michigan is in need of a windshield replacement, I can recommend John Rickard 248-231-4224 (Harmon Glass). No affiliation, just a very pleasant and successful experience, no sealant used, no gaps, everything is as peachy as can be - I expected the worst, but the job took <45 minutes.
I supplied a Pelican-sourced OEM gasket, and had the old windshield out. I figured I would find (and I did find) rust that needed POR-15-ing. I also served as helper monkey, pushing on the glass as directed. The gasket John had did not fit well, and appeared to be aftermarket. He stated it came from a Porsche dealer, and he was aware that the aftermarket seals don't fit well. The Pelican sourced OEM gasket fit like a charm. The PO had siliconed the exterior of the windshield everywhere possible. Apparently he also injected copious amounts of silicone under the gasket - do NOT EVER do this. Curing silicone releases acetic acid, which does a lovely job corroding metal, even painted galvanized metal. Everywhere the PO had injected caulk there was rust, luckily none of it structural. Just thought I'd post a positive experience - I've read of different kinds of experience with glass companies here on the board. |
