Gas Fuel sitting along time
Hi, I'm very new to this and I have worked on cars before. I have a pretty good sense of mechanical work.
I just picked up a 75 911 and the person that was working on it knew 911's pretty good. He left the car and gas was in it but we don't know the status of it. Car did run well. There was tranny problem and it was finished but before we start the car up can anyone tell me what can I do to make sure the fuel system is ok. Do put in some addatives? Any suggests will be appreciated. I did try searching this forum for answers and didnt' come across anything. Car 1975 911 S standard. Thanks |

Drain the fuel system of as much old gas as you can. Add a few gallons of fresh gas along with some SeaFoam.
It wouldn't hurt to replace the fuel filter at the same time or at least soon after you get it running.

+1 to draining it, and replacing the filter.
I would also check any joint form rubber hose to metal. I had a 924s that has some serious fuel line corrosion and leaking issues cause it sat unused before i bought it. For the future i like to use STA-BIL, its cheap and makes a huge difference. Im in college and dont use my cars during the school year. I have tried a few different things and i find STA-BIL works the best if you are going to leave the car for any period of time again. Best Dave

Guys, thank you for the advices. But I heard that the fuel injectors and the fuel system on theses cars are real sensitive. If they are will those additives and method you mentioned work?

Yes, both Sta-bil and Seafoam will work. The important thing is to get the old gas out and replaced with new.
It's doesn't sound like the car has been sitting for years and years so you may not have much of an issue getting her going again. Seafoam is a stabilizer as well as a cleaner so I prefer that but really any injector cleaner will work.

![]() You can pull the fuel level sender & ck whats inside. If it smells like varnish it probably is. One year should not be a problem, but if longer then get it out & replace w fresh gas & Seafoam or similar. It would be a good idea to remove & clean the screen while draining the tank. The injectors can be flushed & cleaned but thats a pain. Better to send clean gas & solovent thru them at the start. Len
