Irridium Spark Plugs

I've recently bought an '05 Scion TC and on the tC forums, they've been talking about irridium plugs and how they get better spark than the platinum plugs and have longer life as well. Anybody have any knowledge of using irridium plugs in Porsche 911 applications, 3.6 most notably?

I'm using them - I like them. I've switched out about 3 sets of bosch platinums in the last 4 years (30k miles) and these ngk's so far have gone for a year with no missing, while the bosch plugs usually started missing for me after a few thousand miles. they are expensive, but it is a porsche & I figured they were worth a try. I've seen many posts about them being made of "unobtainium" aka snake oil. but for me, so far so good. YMMV
BTW - all my plugs have always been visually in good shape, not caked with oil or carbon. I just think the bosch platinum electrode surface area may be too small. or they were losing the electrodes...

i use them in engines that tend to dirty up plugs. hot rod or stock carbed and MFI engines that have to run on the rich side to work well. they do last longer and rarely foul. my 3.2 webered vw bus engine went thru WR9DP bosch platinums like candy. never fouled one irridium.

I've got a '73 1/2 911T with carbs that, as John says, runs on the rich side - any suggestions as to which Iridium plug to use?

Thanks

Jim

I got a Carrera '74 CIS and I use Denso IW-22 or IW-24 (hoter plug), I never try NGK but I heard good feedbacks as well (BPR7EIX)

Denso

NGK Iridium

So what Iridium plug is good for the 964 engine? I just swapped plugs on my Yukon....had 100K on them.

BTW, yes, I know..old thread.

Never mind.... BPR6EIX

Joe Bob, did you ever end up putting the irridium plugs into your 964 engine? I sold my car and never ended up getting them. But I'm still curious and I'm sure this could be helpful to others. How'd they work out if you did the switch?

Nope not yet....my copper plugs look great and the ride isn't really a DD. When I do decide on a change I'll likely try the Iridiums.

No one has stepped to say anything on the use on a flat 6 air cooled motor.

Plenty of stuff on Schtfires and Platinums...but nada on the iridiums.

The truck went to my kids.....three teenager drivers.

"Longer life" The Irridium plugs on my Mazda 3 lasted 60k miles. And 4 of them cost 50% more than the 6 plugs on the 911. Meh.

So...is that a recommendation? The ones in my Yukon went 100K. Good in MY book for a V8 powered truck.
