fluorescent light fell

Overnight a florescent light mounted on the ceiling of the garage fell. Very strange -- same light has been there for years and years.

Somehow it fell staight down and missed both cars.

Anyway I have been avoiding getting a cover for a long time...but am not doing it anymore.

I'm looking for a recommendation on a thick & protectant cover that will be used inside only. Sorry for another boring thread like this.

I use a custom fit Covercraft Dustop. Thick, soft and great for indoor only. Not for outdoor. Thick enough to help protect from hits from the kids playing in the garage. Only downfall is I really need another one for outdoor but my car mainly gets to live in the garage.

Not sure any commercial car cover can provide that much protection against the gravity-fall of a light fixture. Maybe better to ensure the fixture stays in place by doubling up chains/hooks/ceiling fasteners. To prevent broken flourescent tubes from cascading on your rides, you can purchase clear plastic tube covers that will contain the phosphors, glass and mercury bits.

yeah I cant see any cover protecting from a light falling overhead...may help some but Im sure you will still see signs of impact even if it was just the bulb falling

another idea would be one of those inflatable bubbles that you drive the car into

Yup!

The issue is the bulb was not installed properly. If the cover is not installed properly, it could fall off as well.

The more I think about it the less I think the plastic tubes will save you. It (the light) will slip out from one end or the other and lead with the end of the light rather than a parallel to the earth drop. The end of the light hits the car. Not good.

grocery_grabber,
C''mon. You own a Porsche, right? Either you devise something to secure that overhead light sabre or we send you a 2-pack of screw-in incandescent bulbs.
